Combined balcony door with window. Overview of balcony doors Installation of a balcony door

Installation of a balcony door made of modern materials is one of the components of the overall complex of works on glazing a loggia or balcony. Wooden blocks can still be found in old houses. Over time, wooden frames and doors become unusable.

The wood becomes deformed and becomes covered with cracks. Window frames and doors on the balcony are no longer airtight. When glazing a balcony with modern PVC structures, the old door will clearly be discordant with the overall interior of the room. Therefore, along with the glazing, windows and doors are installed.

Dismantling of old structures

Remove old frames, glass and doorways

To dismantle old wooden structures, you need to prepare tools: a saw, a screwdriver, a hammer, a chisel and a pry bar.

It is better to dismantle the window and door together. To avoid minor injuries, work is performed with gloves. Dismantling is carried out in several stages:

  • glass removal;
  • removing the window frame and door panel;
  • dismantling wooden openings.

Glass removal

Use a chisel to remove window putty and wooden slats. Then carefully remove the glass from the window frame and door leaf. The glass is wrapped in any dense material and taken out of the apartment.

Removing the window frame and door panel

If the leaf was opening, then the frame is simply removed from its hinges, like the door leaf. In the case of solid glazing, the frame parts are removed using a chisel and a pry bar.

Dismantling wooden openings

The vertical and horizontal parts of the openings are sawed in the middle and broken out from the landing site with a pry bar or crowbar. Protruding nails and screws are removed. All dismantled parts are carefully collected and removed from the premises.

PVC balcony blocks

Types of balcony windows and doors

Installation of balcony doors and windows today can be of three types of designs:

  1. Aluminum single glazing structures.
  2. Wooden structures.
  3. PVC balcony blocks.

Aluminum single glazing structures

Aluminum balcony structures have a beautiful aesthetic appearance. Thanks to the lightweight profile, the glazing can occupy a large area, which ensures maximum illumination of the room adjacent to the balcony.

Decorates the interiors of living spaces and glazed loggias or balconies.

It is advisable to install such structures with a sufficiently insulated fencing of the balcony or loggia.

Wooden windows and doors

As a rule, making a balcony door with a wooden window is not cheap. But, as you know, wood is a warm and aesthetic material. Window and door products made from it bring their own aesthetic sophistication to the interior of the room.

PVC balcony blocks

Possessing such qualities as lightweight structures, high thermal insulation, and simple installation, PVC blocks are the most popular and widespread.

Wooden windows and doors

PVC structures are produced in a factory based on measurements made by a representative of the manufacturer. Self-installation of a plastic balcony door and window can save 20 - 30% of total costs. For more information about installing a balcony block, watch this video:

The unit is delivered assembled. This is necessary to control the correctness and quality of the assembly of the structure.

Preparatory work

Before installation of structures begins, it is necessary to carry out a number of preparatory work:

  1. The window and doorway are cleared of debris and dirt. The resulting cracks and potholes as a result of dismantling work are carefully sealed with cement mortar.
  2. The assembled block is disassembled into several component parts. The plastic seals are carefully removed from the glazed frame and the glass unit is removed.
  3. Holes are drilled around the perimeter of the frame and mounting plates are installed. If the window unit has an opening sash, then it is removed from its hinges and freed from the ventilation system.
  4. The door leaf is removed in the same way as the window block. I install mounting plates around the perimeter of the doorway.

Installation of a PVC balcony block

Upon completion of the preparatory work, they proceed directly to the installation of a balcony door with a window.

  1. The freed plastic window and door frames are installed in the prepared openings, secured with temporary spacers and supports.
  2. Using a level, the horizontal and vertical position of the PVC frame is finally adjusted.
  3. All mounting plates are fixed with dowels in the wall openings.
  4. The gap between the bottom of the window frame and the pedestal is fixed with plastic spacers.
  5. Along the perimeter of the frame, through the prepared holes, recesses are drilled with a hammer drill in the wall and in the pedestal and dowels are driven in.
  6. Insert a double-glazed window and secure it with plastic seals.
  7. If the opening has an opening flap, then it is installed on hinges and connected to the ventilation system.
  8. Installation of PVC balcony doors is carried out in the same order.
  9. The installed unit is finally checked for the correctness of its position, the serviceability of the opening and ventilation mechanisms.
  10. All cracks and gaps are filled with polyurethane foam.
  11. Install the window sill board and threshold. For more information about installing a PVC balcony block, watch this video:

All connections to the walls and ceiling are covered with plastic covers. Installing a PVC block is very beneficial for both economic and practical reasons.

Arranging a balcony allows you to expand the space in the apartment, but to take full advantage of it, you will also have to take care of installing doors. It is important to initially understand all the subtleties and nuances that may be associated with this process.

Types of structures

A PVC door is perhaps the most common solution: people are attracted by the relative ease of installation, the tightness of the product and the dampening of street noise. When the balcony is closed, not a single speck of dust will enter the house, while the external characteristics are at a high level, and the cost is relatively low. The consumer can choose a block that suits him in color, protection from ultraviolet radiation and loud sounds. The structure can be used for a long time; it will not swell from moisture and will not rot.

Plastic doors also have a drawback - they are not environmentally friendly enough, and at high air temperatures it is undesirable to use them in order to avoid the spread of toxic substances.

A single-leaf door is one whose leaf is separate from the window. Double-floor, also known as frame-mounted, can replace a window with the help of an additional leaf. This solution is preferable because it allows for maximum air flow and illumination, but it is acceptable only for fairly large openings.

A balcony door with a window (balcony block) is divided into three types:

  • Windows on each side of the entrance;
  • The window is to the left;
  • The window is to the right.

Not all kits include a threshold, but this problem can be solved; making such a structural element is not difficult. The same profile is used for it as for the door itself, otherwise a tight fit and sufficient tightness cannot be guaranteed. A height of 6 cm is enough for almost any occasion. If it is uncomfortable, the threshold just needs to be deepened slightly. Portal doors to the loggia should be preferred if you require relatively inexpensive panoramic glazing. The sliding system may contain elements moving parallel to each other. There are also tilt-and-slide and lift-and-slide versions. An important advantage of the parallel type is its compatibility with any openings. All doors can be opened both in passage mode and in micro-ventilation mode.

Lining is used in doors to balconies and loggias due to its aesthetics and appropriateness both in a cottage and in an apartment elevated somewhere to the 10th or 16th floor. Installing such structures yourself is quite simple, and they will serve you for a long time. You don’t have to build a frame from boards or plywood, just by nailing the planks to the frame. Such a scheme will be the best both in terms of external elegance and efficiency.

Please note that the window sill should not overlap the radiators by more than a third, so as not to reduce the heating efficiency. When the board is inserted into the groove, you need to make sure that it is firmly secured.

Measurement and installation

Installing a door on a balcony with your own hands is not too difficult, but it will require preparation and drawing up a plan. It should show what result you expect, what the wall should be like after finishing the work. Only the customers themselves decide whether to slightly update the opening or radically change it. Having removed the old door from its hinges, the frame is dismantled with a mounting crowbar. By moistening the slopes, you can reduce the formation of dust. Carefully knock down not only the mounting foam, but also the mortar, remove any sagging and drips. When removing old plastic blocks, make sure to remove the fasteners first.

Installing a plastic door yourself is useful, if only because your costs will decrease by 10%.

To work you will need:

  • construction level;
  • special knife;
  • drill;
  • or, if you prefer, a hammer drill;
  • hammer;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • fasteners.

A regular kit includes, in addition to the canvas, an installation box, fittings and a threshold. To have something to fasten the balcony door with, stock up on self-tapping screws, dowels and anchor plates. Please note that the latter may differ for different types of input blocks; check with the seller for the necessary information. There should be 70 cm between the fasteners, and they cannot be placed closer than 15 cm to the edge of the box.

An inward opening design would be preferable. For narrow balconies and loggias there will be no other choice at all.

When installing the box, make sure that there are no deviations from a straight line either vertically or horizontally and that the technological gaps are strictly maintained. The connection between the box and the opening is ensured by various types of fasteners, which must be selected according to the wall material. Most often, anchor plates are used, which, after inserting into the groove of the profile, need to be turned and secured with self-tapping screws.

Most boxes are attached with a dozen plates (two on top, four on the left and four on the right). If you need to attach a door to a wooden beam, then dowels are used for this. Balcony doors can be inserted into the foam block using plates. Each of them should be held with several screws so that the load is distributed more evenly.

Possible shortcomings: how to fix?

When the polyurethane foam has hardened, its excess mass is removed with a segment knife. The quality of sealing is clearly visible from the opened cut. It is very important to check for voids and cracks in the foam layer, because they can freeze and let cold into the house in winter.

It is important to understand the procedure if a threshold bursts, which was not originally included in the kit, and you decide to make it yourself. The bottom bar of a door in a standard construction is exactly the same as that of a window. The flooring is cut into the inner box. Convenience of stepping over a threshold with a separate box is ensured if the concrete tray is 2-3 millimeters lower than the projection of ¼ of the block in the box.

You can prevent premature wear by covering the exposed surfaces with a strip of stainless steel and painting it. A concrete tray will have to be abandoned in a house with rich decoration and complex architecture. The bottom of the box is then made of a solid board; the threshold can be made at a minimum level.

The following are considered the smallest acceptable sizes:

  • From the floor surface to the bottom point of the inner door - 1 cm;
  • The width of quarters in boxes is 1 cm;
  • The gap between the frame board and the bottom point of the outer door is 1 cm.

It happens that the opening and the door block are at unequal distances in different places. Replacing the box is by no means a solution. Wooden wedges should be added in excessively wide areas to correct the situation. Please note that replacing the door block is not necessary even if the door begins to sag. Adjustments are made after removing the door from its hinges.

Many problems can be resolved without outside help:

  • Poor pressure;
  • Incomplete opening;
  • Seal rupture;
  • Scratched profile;
  • Problems with the handle.

If the deformation is significant, work first on the bottom of the doors. When working, you will need pliers, L-shaped wrenches, Phillips and flat-head screwdrivers.

Finishing features

A mosquito net is very important in the warm season, when hordes of insects fly everywhere and want to get into the house. The fastening is carried out externally on hinges; the dimensions of the mesh must coincide with the main door. Installing a mechanical type latch does not always guarantee sufficient reliability; those models that have magnets close most tightly. Balcony nets, unlike those installed on windows, are also equipped with compact handles on the outside. Sealing all gaps and cracks is important not only to retain heat, but also to improve sound insulation. You can use mineral wool for insulation, only then should you fasten the door itself.

Please note that you should not leave the old door frame unless absolutely necessary. Wood that has dried out over years of use almost inevitably has cracks and other defects, which means it will allow cold air to pass through.

If you don’t know how to insulate the space between the doors, use dried polyurethane foam - this is an inexpensive and effective product that helps fill even small cracks.

Care and operation

Caring for PVC balcony doors is quite simple: they are not destroyed by sunlight, water and microflora, from which wooden structures constantly suffer. Periodically check whether the balcony opens and closes easily, and as soon as you notice problems, use a special key to tighten or loosen the hinges. The lock must be treated annually with a special aerosol that simultaneously cleans and lubricates. To wash white plastic, it is permissible to use only clean or soapy water; clean the glazed part with a specialized detergent. Do not press the handles too hard, do not leave foreign objects in the door frame, and then it will last for many years.

Examples and options

In balcony blocks, windows of a standard size and equal in height to the main door can be used. A sliding door is complex, it is difficult to achieve the necessary tightness, and a large opening is required. Hinged locking fittings are used in doors with one or two leaves. The only problem can be that the hinges will have to be adjusted every now and then.

A single-leaf design is more common than a double-leaf design, because both in old housing and in modern small-sized apartments, wide openings are only rarely made.

You will learn more about the installation and installation of a balcony door in this video.

  1. Structurally, a window with a door to a balcony can be made from any Rehau profile: Blitz, Euro, Estet, Sib, Delight, Brillant, Geneo or Edinburgh. When choosing, the parameters of the room are taken into account, for example, if the room is dark and you want to increase the light transmittance of the windows, then you can choose Rehau Delight. Or, for example, if the balcony is not glazed, and you need to make the room as warm as possible (children's room, bedroom), then the Rehau Sib profile is suitable for a combined window structure.
  2. The double-glazed windows with which the window structure is equipped can be single- or double-chamber, energy-saving or with special properties (shockproof, sun-reflective, self-cleaning, etc.), described in the section Double-glazed windows.
  3. The filling of door leaves is carried out in three options: double-glazed window + sandwich panel (in the lower part - the most common option), continuous double-glazed window (completely transparent door leaf), two double-glazed windows with a horizontal lintel.
  4. You can install a mechanism on the door leaf that is responsible for micro-ventilation - if the handle is in a vertical position, the door will not swing open, but will fold down from above (like a transom). However, it is more practical to equip a window sash located to the right or left of the door with a tilt-and-turn mechanism.
  5. A balcony block with a window can be decorated in various ways: choose a color scheme, texture, stained glass or decorative layout on the transparent part.
  6. Keep in mind that slopes and thresholds can be made on the day of installation of the window structure! It is enough to discuss this point when measuring the opening, and our specialists will finish the slopes with sandwich panels after the main installation work.
  7. Ease of maintenance is a distinctive feature of plastic windows facing the balcony. Typically, care comes down to removing contaminants as needed using traditional alkali-free compounds.

Doors are one of the most important components of a house or apartment. It is they, high-quality and reliable, that can create a feeling of comfort and security. During a major renovation or when purchasing a new apartment, the owners most often carefully approach the choice of the entrance door and quickly decide on the necessary options for interior openings. But as soon as it comes to arranging a balcony, many factors and selection criteria appear, which not everyone can quickly figure out. Let’s try to understand how to choose the right balcony door for your apartment.

Types of balcony doors

First, let's decide on the most important question: what are the types of balcony doors?

There are several main types of balcony doors according to some of their features. For example:

  • Location relative to the balcony window:

There are several options for positioning the door relative to the windows. Firstly, in the case of a block, the door can be either to the left or to the right of the window. In the same case, when the door is not connected to the window, you can position it however you like, depending on your imagination and the capabilities of the wall. The most popular locations are a door between two windows and a large sliding door replacing windows.

  • Door opening mechanism :
  • Door design:
  • Material:
  1. Aluminum;
  2. Tree;
  3. Glass.

When choosing doors and windows for a balcony, you first need to decide how they will be mounted into the wall. In all standard houses, balcony blocks are usually installed, so reconstructing the wall adjacent to the balcony for a different type of door will be more difficult and expensive, but you can create a unique interior design not only on the balcony itself, but also in the room preceding it.

Materials for balcony doors

One of the main questions when choosing balcony doors and windows is what material best retains heat while being durable and aesthetically attractive? There is no single solution for each specific situation, since different materials are suitable for different conditions and even the financial capabilities of the homeowner. Let's look at each option in more detail to evaluate all the pros and cons.

Plastic balcony doors

PVC is the most common material for windows, doors and balcony blocks. This is due, first of all, to fairly affordable prices for metal-plastic products. At the same time, many manufacturers offer custom-made doors in the sizes you need and with various structural and design features, so this option is suitable for people with a wide variety of budgets and goals.

The main advantages of PVC doors:

  1. Long service life subject to careful use;
  2. Excellent sound and noise insulation performance;
  3. Resistance to temperature changes (do not freeze in winter and do not heat up in hot weather), high humidity and hurricane winds;
  4. Retains heat well in the room;
  5. Possibility to choose a color suitable for the interior of the apartment;
  6. Acceptable price.

This material also has a number of disadvantages:

  1. “Office” design, which does not always fit into luxurious interior styles;
  2. The fittings and seals must be periodically maintained to ensure that the door mechanisms work correctly for as long as possible.

In general, plastic balcony doors are the most convenient to use on both glazed and open balconies, and are also suitable for regions with any climatic conditions.

Aluminum doors

Contrary to popular belief, modern aluminum doors and windows can also be warm. That is why they are often used on small balconies, where every centimeter of space is important, and the light weight of the structure is the main selection criterion.

The advantages of such doors are:

  1. Light weight metal profile;
  2. The ability to create a unique door shape and design;
  3. Greatest durability of the structure;
  4. Full compliance with fire, sanitary and environmental standards;
  5. Affordable price.

However, aluminum doors are not suitable for everyone, because:

  1. They do a poor job of maintaining heat and maintaining an acceptable noise level in the room;
  2. Another disadvantage is that a poorly made structure will freeze in the winter, which is why the door opening and closing mechanisms may be blocked.

For residential premises with an uninsulated and unglazed balcony, this will be a big problem, but with aluminum doors you can safely create an exit to a balcony or loggia in an office, cafe or country house.

Wooden balcony blocks

Another material that apartment owners often refuse due to outdated stereotypes. It is believed that wood is the most problematic material for doors, especially balcony doors, since it is highly susceptible to moisture, temperature changes and fire.

This opinion is erroneous, since modern wooden structures are made of durable laminated veneer lumber and impregnated with special compounds that protect doors from insects, moisture and even fire.

The main advantages of wooden doors:

  1. They retain heat in the apartment no worse than PVC structures; moreover, they can be equipped with multi-chamber double-glazed windows;
  2. Thanks to its structure, wood creates a favorable indoor microclimate;
  3. Aesthetic appearance;
  4. 100% environmentally friendly - such doors and windows are perfect for those who dream of a “green” apartment.

The only downsides that can be noted are:

  1. Wood requires periodic care, including annual treatment with special compounds;
  2. High price for wood products.

It is still not recommended to install such doors on an open balcony or loggia if the climate in your region is quite humid, since due to frequent exposure to external factors, the service life of the structure is reduced.

Glass doors

Glass is one of the most expensive, but original materials for decorating an exit to a balcony or loggia. Typically, such doors are chosen for apartments with a bright and impressive design, and a recreation area or a small one is installed on a glazed and insulated balcony.

For frameless doors made of this material, especially strong double-glazed windows are used, the glass thickness of which is at least a centimeter. In addition, either tempered glass or triplex is used, so there is no need to worry about the reliability of the design.

Advantages of glass doors:

  1. Maximum room illumination;
  2. Unique design;
  3. Visual effect of expanding space;
  4. Environmental friendliness and fire resistance.

The disadvantages include:

  1. Large weight of the structure;
  2. High cost;
  3. Such doors in residential buildings can only be installed on glazed and insulated balconies due to their low tightness and poor thermal insulation;

The installation of glass structures should be trusted only to specialists. Perfect fit of the valves is a prerequisite for a properly functioning opening mechanism, so any inaccuracy during assembly and installation can lead to disastrous consequences.

Design features of balcony doors

Now let's take a closer look at the design features of balcony doors. There are several types of doors, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages:

  • Standard swing door.

Most often, this type of door design is included in the balcony block. The door opens into the room, to the left or to the right, depending on its placement relative to the window.

  • Double balcony doors with central impost.

An impost is a fixed frame insert located centrally between two door leaves. The doors swing open into the room, one to the left, the other to the right. Such doors have little functionality, since the opening only appears wide in appearance, but in reality the passage remains just as narrow, there are simply two of them.

  • Panel type door.

The frame is a structure, the top of which is fixed to the frame, and the bottom is fixed motionless. When the hinge is opened, two door leaves simultaneously swing open in different directions.

  • Sliding balcony doors.

There are several types of sliding doors used on balconies:

Sliding doors are the most successful option for those apartments where saving space is important. Open doors allow you not to take up space in the room; moreover, the room can be easily ventilated by installing a folding mechanism.

The main criterion for choosing a design will be the presence of an opening suitable for installation. Typically, doorways have a width of 70 to 90 centimeters and a height of 200 to 210 centimeters. In some cases, the width and height of the opening can reach 130 and 280 centimeters, respectively, for example, in private houses or old apartment buildings.

It is quite possible to modify the doorway according to the individual dimensions of the door or balcony block being installed, but it is worth remembering that any reconstruction of the load-bearing wall should be carried out only with the permission of architectural authorities.

Instructions for installing a plastic balcony door

Since plastic balcony doors are the easiest to install, it is quite possible to do this work yourself. In addition, you can save on the services of craftsmen, who usually charge a lot of money for a not very high-quality installation of all door mechanisms.

Necessary tools for installing a PVC door on a balcony:

  • Building level;
  • Hammer;
  • Hammer;
  • Construction knife;
  • Fastening elements;
  • Polyurethane foam.

Before you begin installing a door or block, you need to prepare the opening and door for work. To do this you need:

After preparation, you can begin work on installing the plastic balcony door. The procedure will be as follows:

The most important thing when installing a PVC door on a balcony yourself is accuracy and precision. Then the new door will delight you not only with its ideal appearance, but also with its durability!

Video instructions to help you:

Installing a balcony block yourself is not easy, but it is possible if you choose simple design options from familiar materials. Detailed instructions from professionals will help in the process, illustrating each stage of installation.

Preparing for installation: where to start

To understand how to install a balcony door with a window, it’s not enough to study the video; you will need to follow step by step the recommendations developed by specialists for such cases.

Experts recommend preparing the field for work. It is advisable to start by drawing up a mini-project with a description of installation details and drawings of the balcony door. Having such a project with measurements of the opening, you can contact a company producing window and balcony blocks to order the product.

The best option for installation is plastic structures, since installing a plastic balcony door with your own hands is easier than wooden or glass, and it serves no worse, ideally complementing the interior design.

With a finished project and a custom-made block based on opening measurements, you can begin dismantling the old structure. To do this, you will need to prepare a simple set of tools:

  • hammer;
  • grinder for woodworking.

Dismantling is carried out according to a strict algorithm of actions:

  1. Old doors and windows are removed from their hinges.
  2. The frames are cut using a grinder.
  3. The remains of the frame are removed using a crowbar.
  4. Debris and dust are carefully removed.

An important point: during the process of dismantling the old structure, you need to carefully ensure that the integrity of the opening is not damaged.

Installation: the essentials for the work

Installing a balcony door yourself will save some money, but will require maximum responsibility and effort. In the process of work, the following tools are used:

  • level;
  • segment knife;
  • hammer;
  • drill;
  • polyurethane foam;
  • fasteners.

An important point: fasteners must correspond to the structure chosen for installation.

Instructions for installing a PVC balcony block

The prepared window block with a door (we will consider installation using the example of using a PVC door) is installed in the opening, temporarily fixed with wooden wedges. Using a building level, check the correct alignment of the structure in each plane.

The next step is to tap the wedges with a mallet and fix the box in the opening using self-tapping screws or mounting hangers. Due to the flexible body of the profile, they can be attracted to the wall surface at any angle.

Once the box is installed and secured, you can begin to glue the waterproofing membrane to the outside of the profile with fixation. Gluing the material is easy. To do this, it will be enough to remove the protective layer of paper from its surface.

When the gluing of the protective membrane is completed, you can proceed to the canopy directly
about canvases, both door and window sashes. To make the installation of a PVC balcony door more convenient, the products are first freed from double-glazed windows by dismantling the glazing beads holding them in place.

Depending on the system, installation of the structure begins from the bottom or top hinge. The first option is relevant when using a system with a “micro-ventilation” mode. In this case, they begin to work with the lower hinges, installing the leaf, after which the door is switched to the “closed” mode, securing the pins in the middle and upper hinges.

The final stage is the installation of fittings with testing and adjustment of the door. In addition, at the final stage, you must remember to return the removed double-glazed windows to their original positions, securing them with glazing beads.

After installation, the finished door is brought into a closed state, the gaps between the block and the opening are filled with polyurethane foam, taking into account its expansion by 2/3. For better adhesion of the foam to the surface, the box and the wall itself are moistened with water.

Important points: what to pay attention to

To increase rigidity in double-leaf doors, blind transoms are used. Using a bracket made from a sheet strip, the transoms are connected.

In order for the door to maintain its original presentable appearance and functionality during operation, it is important to pay special attention to the arrangement of the threshold. In the classic version of the frame, the lower bars of the doors are similar to the window ones. In this case, it is necessary to embed the flooring into the inner frame.

For ease of use of a threshold with a separate box, you need to use a concrete tray.

In order for the threshold to last as long as possible, the open part of the block near the door frame should be reinforced with an iron strip and painted. When installing a concrete tray is inappropriate, you can use a solid board to create a threshold with a minimum height. This is considered to be 10mm from the bottom of the door to the floor.

An important point is the size of the balcony. If it is narrow, then you need to install the door in such a way that it opens into the room. Only in this case will it be possible to avoid cluttering the space from the outside with doors in the “open” position.

Adjusting the door leaf: when and how to do it

To understand how correctly the door was installed, it is enough to use a sheet of plain paper. If you place it on the canvas frame in a slightly open state, and then close it tightly, it will become clear in which area the sheet fits best. It is in these areas that it will be necessary to adjust the blade pressure. This will help you do this:

  • plastic gaskets with different thicknesses;
  • 4 mm L-shaped hexagon.

The reasons for loose closure may be:

  1. Rubber seal with deformed areas. If there are any, the seal will need to be replaced.
  2. Handle not working properly. Perhaps the mechanism does not work correctly and the handle will need to be either replaced or repaired.

To move the corner of the balcony door to the sides, you will need a hex key. With its help, you can tighten the adjusting screw in the upper loop, after first removing the decorative plug. To adjust the horizontal position of the canvas, you need to turn it around the bottom loop to one side.

The lower corner of the door is adjusted by tightening the adjusting screw with a hex key in the area of the lower hinge. To adjust the door horizontally, it is rotated around the top hinge.

If the reason is a crumpled but intact seal, you will need to slightly lift the sash and then adjust the hinge group with a hex key. Adjustment of the upper hinge may be necessary if the seal is deformed in the upper part. Lower the sash by moving the key clockwise, raise it counterclockwise.

Do not place too high hopes on the hinge adjustment procedure. In some cases, these manipulations will not be enough and the solution to the problem will be the use of plastic spacers for installation between the profile and the door frame.

How to properly install a glass balcony door: recommendations

A door leaf made of glass is more massive and fragile compared to plastic or wood, so the installation of a door with a window is carried out extremely carefully and preferably with assistants.

Installation begins with the preparation of the necessary fasteners. Anchors with a size of at least 2 mm are suitable. The door frame is attached to the wall using self-tapping screws, so pre-prepare holes 6 cm deep in the surface of the wall and the frame itself. The distance from the corners must be at least 20 cm; an additional two holes are prepared in the space between the long side of the opening.

To install the glass balcony door yourself and secure it at the initial stage, you will need special leveling wedges; it is better if they are plastic products for optimal sliding. Two wedges are enough for the job.

The balcony frame is placed on the anchors, after which it is aligned along the main sides using wedges, starting from the base and moving to the sides. The wedges are driven in using a regular hammer and screwdriver.

The door frame can only be secured after testing for distortions. A regular building level is suitable for this. It is enough to apply it to vertical and horizontal lines. If the canvas holds without distortion, you can proceed to fastening with self-tapping screws.

The next stage is the installation of mechanisms and accessories. Each element is delicately attached and tested in operation. The final step is to attach the double-glazed windows. Using glazing beads and rubber, as well as a special soft hammer for working with glass, you can complete the installation yourself.

An important point: glass doors for a balcony or loggia, unlike plastic ones, require a particularly delicate approach to the selection of fittings, and it does not matter whether the window and balcony door are being replaced or the initial installation. This is due to the increased load on the canvas during operation.

High-quality mechanisms and fittings from trusted manufacturers will extend the service life of the entire structure. Cheap handles and mechanisms can cause distortions and premature failure of the blade.

In conclusion, we note that installation, as well as replacing a balcony door without replacing the window unit on your own, is not an easy operation and its outcome largely depends on the choice of material for the door leaf. The fastenings for the balcony doors that were used in the process also play a role. It is important to adequately assess your strengths, carefully read the installation instructions and only then proceed to active action.
