The master class is designed for students in grades 4-6, with the aim of using waste material.
Purpose of the master class: teach students how to make a magazine stand, provide information about the step-by-step sequence of making the product; develop robotic skills with cardboard, napkins, glue, varnish; develop thinking, attention, creative imagination, memory; to cultivate children’s aesthetic taste and interest in design.
When we shop, we have no idea how useful cardboard packaging boxes can be in everyday life. Corrugated cardboard, in addition to its strength, is an environmentally friendly material, which allows it to be used in decoration. One of such decors can be a cardboard stand for folders. It is economical, easy to create, and its functionality depends on your creativity. Thus, we invite you to try yourself in creating an interesting and unusual piece of furniture, like a cardboard stand for folders.
We will need:
Carton boxes,
Scissors,
Pencil,
PVA glue,
White napkins, napkin with motif,
Brush, wide brush (painting brush),
A bowl for diluting glue with water,
White acrylic paint (or white gouache diluted with PVA glue in equal proportions),
Foam rubber (piece of sponge),
Colored acrylic paints or gouache,
Interior acrylic varnish (glossy).
Progress
1. Take a cardboard box and mark the cut location on one side with a pencil. Let's cut it off. For symmetry, place the cut out part on the other side, mark it with a pencil and also cut it off.
2. If the cardboard box is thin, for strength we glue cardboard or a cardboard box selected according to size from the middle. If desired, you can make compartments using the lid of a shoe box, gluing it around the edges. The cardboard can be cut, unfolded, and selected according to the size of the box. Design, fantasize!
3. We tear the napkins into strips with our hands. We start gluing the box from the top, and then the sides. With your left hand we fold the strip into pleats (drape it), and with a brush, holding it in your right hand, glue the strip along the edges with PVA glue and water (diluted equally). We glue the strip partly to save volume
4. A draped box comes out.
5. Paint the box with a wide brush. To easily paint the sides from the bottom of the box, place it on a board or some smaller object. We wait until the paint dries (approximately 10 hours)
6. Choose a napkin. We cut out the motif with nail scissors and separate the top layer of the napkin. We won't need the other two layers without a pattern for our work.
7. Using PVA glue, glue the motif from the napkin.
8. Using a sponge and a small amount of yellow acrylic paint diluted equally with water, lightly apply the background. We are waiting for it to dry.
9. Slightly blur the background using a sponge and black acrylic paint (or red, as in another version of the stand), diluted equally with water.
10. Using green (for the stem, leaves of the flower) and red (for petals) acrylic paints, paint on small elements.
11. Using a wide brush, coat the stand with acrylic varnish and let dry. After drying (the varnish does not stick when touched with your fingers), the stand can be used for its intended purpose.

Agree that in a work mess there is absolutely no room for a lot of pieces of paper with notes that might come in handy someday. You always put them in one place, but they end up scattered all over the table. This was the case for me, until I decided to make a stand for papers using the cardboard technique and a master class at the same time. The stand, of course, also serves to store clean paper. It's amazing what useful things you can create with cardboard, fabric and glue. The manufacturing technique is simple, you just need to be patient and careful.
To create a stand you need to prepare:
cardboard - 2 mm thickness; fabric, preferably 100% cotton; PVA glue; whatman; glue "Moment Crystal/Universal"; stationery knife; scissors; glue brush; masking tape; pencil; ruler.
Cut out the cardboard blanks to the required size using a stationery knife.
First, let's assemble three sides measuring 9x9 cm (two walls and the bottom of the stand), applying glue to the edges of the bottom. To ensure that the wall is at a right angle, you can adjust it by supporting it with a corner.
Glue the back wall of the stand.
We take any round object and trace it on the blanks for the small front walls so that we get a beveled corner.
Glue the small parts by applying glue to the edges of the walls and bottom.

Masking tape is needed to secure the entire structure. We seal all the joints inside and outside the stand with it. Using a stack, smooth out the tape so that there are no wrinkles.
We iron a piece of fabric measuring 39x13 cm. We will glue the fabric to the walls of the stand, as if wrapping it around it. Apply a very thin layer of glue to the first wall. If you apply too much, the glue may penetrate the fabric and leave marks, or the cardboard may become deformed.
We glue this wall to the fabric. We make sure that the wall lies exactly in the center and there are indentations.
We glue all three walls, carefully adding small ones. We smooth the surface with a stack so that there are no blisters on the fabric.
We cut the corners at an acute angle at the bottom of the stand. We seal the indentations. First you need to make cuts on the fabric in the places where the small walls end. We do not cut off the excess fabric; we will use it to seal the inside of the walls.
In the same way, we cut and glue the corners of the upper part of the stand of the rear and side walls.
Now let's prepare the fabric in the front part to beautifully cover the small walls.
At the bottom, we evenly cut off the excess fabric to the level of the upper part of the bottom.
We make cuts accordingly.
First, glue the top corner, braiding it around the perimeter of the rounded part. If excess folds appear, you can make small cuts by gluing them on top of each other. Let's bend and glue a piece of fabric that remains superfluous, but just serves the purpose so that the edges of the fabric are not visible. We carefully glue the last part, forming a flat surface and corners with a stack.
We cut out a square from whatman paper that fits the size of the bottom and a fabric with allowances for it.
We glue whatman paper onto the ironed fabric. We cut the corners at an acute angle.
We leave the piece unsealed and glue it to the top of the bottom.
Glue the bottom, folding the loose fabric up.
It is possible to set up your own workplace using various types of devices. For fans of handicrafts, it will be interesting to create such accessories with your own hands. For example, you can make a pencil stand. This will not require too much effort from you and will not become too complicated, but the result of your work will certainly please you.
What will you need for work?
Take an ordinary square sheet of paper, for example, measuring 21x21 centimeters, as well as rhinestones or other decorative elements that will be needed for decoration, and stationery or PVA glue.

How to make a pencil holder with your own hands
First, fold the sheet in half. Thus, its midline was designated. Now you need to bend both sides to it. On the spread you can see that the sheet is divided by folds into 4 equal parts. We repeat the same thing in the other direction. Ultimately, the paper sheet is divided into 16 identical squares. We bend those located in the corners, thus turning them into triangles. We bend the lower edges of the workpiece upward. On the contrary, the upper edge will need to be folded down. All sides will need to be folded towards the center. All that remains is to insert the left edge of the workpiece into its right edge. The result was one of 6 modules of the future paper pencil holder. After this, you will need to make 5 more exactly the same blanks. Each of them will represent a separate element of our stand. When they are all ready, you can start gluing. To do this, apply glue to the side of one of the modules, then connect it to the second module. It will be necessary to glue all the modules together. After successfully completing this stage, all that remains is to decorate the product at your own discretion. Alternatively, this can be done using colored rhinestones or appliqués.
Paper dish stand
Many people at work or at home have a large accumulation of stacks of unnecessary, long-viewed, glossy magazines. In that case, why not give them a second chance to exist? For example, you can make a coaster out of them. Simply put, what you don’t need shouldn’t be thrown away; it’s better to use it in another role. So, we take 6 sheets from the magazine. If the edges are torn, then carefully cut them off. After this, cut all the sheets of paper in half lengthwise. Take one piece of paper and fold it in half lengthwise to get narrow strips. Then we fold it again so that the cut edges are hidden inside the strip. Now the resulting long paper strips need to be folded in half again in the center so that it looks like the letter “G”. Then we place one strip crosswise under the other, then bend it in half. We add strips on each side in turn, intertwining them along the way. When the row is completed, some strips will need to be wrapped on the outside. Simply fold them in the opposite direction, placing them under the nearest cross strip. You need to press all the paper components tightly against each other. Such stands can be painted after weaving is completed, or left in their original form - this is a matter of taste and personal preference.
