How are tubings different? Tubing: what is it and what is it eaten with?

Winter entertainment is constantly evolving: now you can rarely see a sled, and more often - an inflatable ring, just like in the summer.

Cheesecake, tablet, circle - as soon as this device is not called. But its official name is tubing, and riding on it is tubing. It is noteworthy that both children and adults come to the slides with such a thing.

Tubing - riding on an inflatable sleigh in the shape of a circle. You can ride both on water and in snow - however, the idea just came from water sports. The inflatable ring served as the prototype for this type of sled.

The tube quickly got its popular name, and in a very sociable way: cheesecake, bun, donut. When descending he controlled by tilting, that is, changes in gravity on different sides. For example, by leaning back, you can slow down and it is not at all necessary to rest your feet on the hill to do this.

This type of active recreation has a beneficial effect on the body, because when climbing a mountain a person experiences serious cardio stress. And when it rolls down, it rests, simultaneously developing a slight cry. Also, entertainment uses most muscles and has a beneficial effect on coordination.

Instead of the foreign word “tubing”, the popular name has taken root in Russia - cheesecake. Both circles are identical, with almost no external or structural differences. Perhaps, almost the only difference is in the models (there are professional and ordinary ones, like with skis) and the area of application.

In addition, tubing can have a hole in the center - like a circle for swimming, hence the name Bublik appeared. Cheesecake is usually called a budget option, which can be a lighter analogue. Therefore, it is suitable for both children and adults.

Design

Inflatable sled differ in structure from the usual water circles. At the base, under the synthetic cover, there is a torus-shaped chamber filled with air. The center of the cheesecake - where the greatest load from the weight of a person is - is additionally laid with a nylon thread for reinforcement.

Cases are produced from the following materials:

  • reinforced PVC fabric;
  • polyester;
  • polyoxford.

They all have similar characteristics. They feel grainy and rough to the touch, but they slide great on snow and ice. The special coating ensures good glide. The inflatable part of the chamber softens the blow when falling - so, despite the development of high speed, the possibility of injury is minimal.

Tube supplied one or two handles in order for a person to hold on while sliding. Some models are equipped with a rope for ease of transportation.

Types of tubing

As already mentioned, tubing is more typical for water activities. But in reality, tubing on snowy slopes originated in the 18th century.

Then the shape and design were significantly different, but, nevertheless, the idea was already implemented and specifically in snowy types of outdoor activities. A quick descent down a snow slide is achieved due to the force of gravity. The greater the friction force, the more the speed of the sliding tube increases.

Water tubing

It differs little from snow descent, but has several varieties: rafting and on a boat. The rafting is similar to kayaks - only the tube is not controlled, so they can raft on it only at low or medium speed and the strength of the current.

Tubing with a boat can be compared to water skiing. The tube is tied to the starting boat, as a result of which the passenger and the circle itself are lifted above the water due to the speed of movement. Another difference is that safety precautions are observed.

Passengers are put on life jackets so that in the event of a departure they do not drown in the water, choking from surprise. After all, such entertainment is accompanied by screaming. However, in winter skiing the role of a “life jacket” is played by winter clothing.

Characteristics

There is no point in listing the characteristics of the material or design. Obviously, the tubing is durable and comfortable for riding on snowy hills. Thanks to the handles, it is also transportable - you can simply carry it around.

Physical parameters others: the weight of the tube can reach 5 kg or even more (models for adults). However, light models start from 3 kg and this is not a significant, even useful load for a child. Transportation takes place in the snow, so the weight is halved.

Children's models have a diameter of 80 cm- considering the outer circle and the “sitting inside”. They are capable of supporting weights up to 80 kg at any speed. Therefore, children can easily ride together, or even three, with friends. Adult tubing is much larger: the diameter reaches 120 cm, and the load is up to 150 kg.

Tubing or inflatable sled - incredibly comfortable thing for winter, which is also easy to store in the summer. When deflated, such sleds do not take up much space. The usual winter slide will appear in a different color, if you slide down it on a cheesecake - a sea of emotions is guaranteed.

The diameter of the tubes when inflated is 80-150 cm. It must be selected according to the person’s height. This criterion is very important, since in a tube that is too small, the child will injure his legs, and in a tube that is too large, he will simply drown.

How to choose tubing for a child so that your child has fun in winter

For children under ten years of age, it is worth taking a tube measuring 80-90 cm. For older children and teenagers, take a universal diameter of 100 cm. For those who are taller than 175 cm, you need a larger diameter - from 115-120 cm.

Small children should not ride on their own. In this case, you need to take a cheesecake 120-125 cm so that the baby can ride in it with an adult.

How to choose the right tubing

Here are the main nuances:

  • Reliability. Before purchasing, carefully inspect the bottom, handles, seams, and chamber. All this must be of high quality. Handles should be made of rope or plastic, frost-resistant. The bottom is made of polyvinyl chloride, which looks like a shiny film. The seams should be smooth and thick, reinforced with nylon. The camera needs to be made of a highly elastic material, for example, multilayer glossy PVC.
  • Safety. The cheesecake should not contain sharp metal or wooden parts; it should be soft and comfortable. When sitting, the child should not touch the ground with his feet, and his butt should not touch the bottom of the cheesecake. Remember that the tubing is uncontrollable while riding, so it can only be used on proven routes without trees with a maximum slope of 20%. This type of recreational vehicle reaches speeds of up to 100 km/h, so a collision with a tree can end horribly.
  • Convenience. This is an important criterion, because if the baby is uncomfortable, he will not enjoy the ride. As for the comfort of using tubing, it is better to buy along with it a pump, a ring for transporting the cheesecake on a lift, glue for repairing it, and protective glasses for skating.

The weak points of cheesecakes are the handles and the bottom. The handles can come off on slides with springboards, and the bottom can get worn out from bad surfaces or from driving onto asphalt. To avoid this, buy tubes from reliable manufacturers.

Although the cost of inflatable cheesecakes in the retail chain is low (from 1,500 rubles, although you can find cheaper ones), many parents want to make tubing with their own hands, and they do it very well.

After all, sewing tubing does not require the qualifications of a tool maker or fashion designer.

Anyone can do this if they have the desire and a couple of hours of free time.

In essence, tubing is an ordinary rubber inflatable circle, sewn into a case, with a flat sliding bottom and handles.

The simplest and cheapest tubing you can make yourself

Materials you will need:

  • a car camera, you can easily beg it from a neighbor who is a motorist;
  • 2 pieces of vinyl artificial leather or simple dermantine measuring 1x1 meter;
  • synthetic thick threads;
  • 0.5 meters of thick synthetic tape for making handles;
  • towing cord 2 - 3 meters long;
  • “gypsy” needle or sewing machine for thick fabric;
  • scissors.

You need to sew the cover right away - place the car camera on the vinyl leather, mark the size of the cover and cut out two circles with scissors. We leave the bottom circle intact, and in the top circle we cut out a round hole in the center, the diameter of which is about 30 cm.

Sew both circles around the perimeter, inside out. Then we turn the sewn circles inside out, and sew 2 or 4 handles and a towing cord on the sides of the top circle. Next, we insert the car inner tube inside, with its nipple facing down, then inflate the inner tube. We put a piece of rubber hose on the nipple for safety.

Well, that's all, the tubing is ready. It will probably last until the end of winter, or even last for two or three seasons.

Tubing is much stronger and better quality

But to create this tubing with our own hands we use even higher quality materials. For example, instead of vinyl leather, another fabric is used here. Thick PVC fabric with a density of about 900 g/m² or banner fabric will be used on the bottom.

For the upper part of the case, you can take a thinner fabric, such as aviazent, taffeta, cordura, etc., or nylon, from which bags are sewn. On the ready-made cover, sewn according to the first instructions, you need to sew a sling around the perimeter (at the junction of the upper and lower parts).

Handles and a towing cord are also sewn onto it.

You can leave the car camera “naked”, but you will need to wrap it with a fire hose cut lengthwise. It is canvas on top and rubber on the inside. Next, insert the camera into the case, inflate it and the tubing is ready.
Tubing is more convenient for skating, in which not a circle, but an oval is cut out for the bottom and top.

The task of making a tube can be simplified by sending the blanks for the cover to a sewing workshop, where everything will be stitched quickly and efficiently on an industrial machine. This tubing will serve both in winter and summer when swimming on the water.

You can also buy ready-made tubing, but making it yourself will be better than an expensive store-bought one and will serve you for many seasons.

Tubing is an inflatable sled for high-speed descents from slides. They are also called cheesecakes or bagels. They are more convenient and faster than the usual ice skates, lighter and safer than snow scooters. To get only pleasure from skiing, you need to choose the right tubing. We tell you how to do this.

How tubing works

The cheesecake has a simple design: an inflatable rubber bladder inside and a removable cover with handles and a cable for towing on the outside. The case is made of canvas material, which glides well and is abrasion-resistant.

There are 1-seater sleds and 2-seater “eight” sleds. They differ from each other in the shape of the case and the number of cameras.

How to choose a tubing model

First, decide who will use the donut: just the child or you plan to ride together. You need to choose the tubing size based on the weight and height of the riders.

The size of the tube is considered to be the diameter of the cover, because the chamber is always smaller. Bagels are available for children, teenagers or families - for 2 children, a child with an adult or 2 adults.

The table will help you make the right choice.

Passenger height, cm

Tubing diameter, cm

Another important criterion is the maximum load that the cheesecake can withstand. This information is in the characteristics of each model.

What to look for when choosing tubing

Case material. Look what the tubing is made of. The most common cases are made of awning fabric or its combination with oxford. Awning fabric is more tensile, so products made from it are more expensive.

Material Density. When choosing, pay attention to the density of the cover material. If you are buying tubing for yourself or children, a density of 550–600 g/m² is sufficient. For rolled products, the optimal density will be 800–930 g/m².

Handles and tow rope. Models of the “ ” series are equipped with rubber handles; they are more reliable and convenient. Also, the towing rope slings are threaded along the sides of the tubing, and are not attached in one place. Such a cable will definitely not break.

Seat size. Due to the special design of the cover, they have an enlarged seat valve. It comfortably fits 2 children or 1 adult with a child.

How to use tubing correctly

How to pump up. Before use, the tubing must be properly inflated with a car compressor.

Watch the video to find out:

  • how to prepare the camera and case for inflation;
  • avoid the formation of hernias;
  • to what volume should the chamber be inflated?

How to store. Before bringing the bagel indoors, let some air out of it. Then thermal expansion will not damage the rubber. In winter, the tubing can be stored on the balcony, and in summer it can be deflated and folded.

What to do if the tubing breaks

The cover is damaged. If the seam comes apart or the fabric is torn, contact a specialized workshop.

The camera is damaged. You can repair it like a bicycle or buy a new one at.

To choose the right camera, measure the diameter of the case without it. Refer to this table.

How to protect yourself from injury: safety requirements

  1. Do not tie tubes to cars.
  2. Choose a place to ride. Ride on equipped trails. You cannot drive down slopes where rocks, asphalt or branches protrude.
  3. Do not ride on a faulty tubing. Before use, check the integrity of the camera. A product with a hernia must be replaced.
  4. Don't ride the train. If you want to go down the slide together, choose a 2-seater bagel.
  5. Don't go on the jumps. The cheesecake absorbs the unevenness of the slope, but if you fall into a hole or onto a springboard, you risk flying several meters and seriously hurting yourself.
  6. Protect children. For children under 6 years old, it is best to ride with an adult and on a gentle slide, where the tubing cannot reach dangerously high speeds. Children under 12 years old should wear a helmet and bib if the slide is fast.
  7. Ride while seated, not on your stomach or knees.

If you have any questions, ask them in the comments to the news or consult with your manager. Follow safety precautions and let the descents bring only pleasure!

Tubing, used for skiing on snowy slopes, has gained wide popularity among domestic consumers. These inflatable products, also often called cheesecakes, have become a multifunctional alternative to classic sleds, and they can increasingly be seen on the snow-covered slopes of our country.

Design Features

In terms of design, cheesecake sleds are not overly intricate. The basis of the tubing is an automobile rubber inner tube, which is placed in a special casing made of high-strength polymer material. When inflated, the cheesecake turns into a sled with a comfortable seat, which in some models can be additionally equipped with a plastic or inflatable seat. To ensure comfort and safety on the slopes, the design of the sled is complemented by special handles. The bottom of the tubes is made of high-strength PVC material, which has increased wear resistance.

There are several types of inflatable cheesecakes on the market, differing in diameter:

  • 100-110 cm - classically models for adults, which can easily accommodate a child;
  • 0.85-0.90 m – children’s and teenage product format;
  • 0.80 m – tubes for children aged 3 years and older.
Modern manufacturers also offer non-standard solutions in the form of double and triple tubes. Such designs have worse driving characteristics than classic single cheesecakes, but they are fun to spend time with family or a group of friends.

Operational advantages of tubes

The main advantages of cheesecakes are considered to be their compactness, low weight, excellent driving characteristics and high safety standards. These qualities allowed them to successfully compete with classic sleds. When deflated, the tubes require minimal storage space and can easily find a place in any apartment. An important advantage of the structures is also ease of transportation.

Riding on a cheesecake is much safer than riding a regular sled. The absence of protruding metal elements and corners minimizes the risk of injuries resulting from falls and collisions, which are common situations on the slide. Due to their insignificant mass, cheesecakes have minimal inertia, due to which, during collisions, the impact force is not so strong. Due to the lower center of gravity, tubes rarely turn over.

What tubing owners need to know

It is recommended to pump the cheesecake sled for the first time in a warm room. Having carefully straightened the chamber inside the shell, it is inflated until the tubing straightens and the casing tightly fits the chamber. In the cold, rubber changes its properties, becomes stiffer and stretches less well. If you decide to inflate a cheesecake with a new chamber at sub-zero temperatures, there is a high probability that it may burst.

Common cases are when the chamber inflates unevenly, expanding in certain places. In such situations, it is recommended to place the thickened part at the back of the tubing. This will provide additional comfort to your back and prevent the sled from spinning on steep slopes.

In a cheesecake, the chamber acts as a consumable item and, if necessary, can be easily replaced with a new one. During off-season storage, the casing and tubing chamber should be kept separate from each other. Otherwise, rubber may begin to penetrate into the structure of the polymer material, which will cause the shell to stick together and become dirty.
The plastic handles on inflatable tubes are not designed to be attached to vehicles. Despite their strength and stitching in several places, they are not designed for such loads. A torn handle will cause significant damage to the shell.
