  • For reliability and stability, additional reinforcement is carried out before pouring the foundation; even at this stage, a sewer pipe is laid under the foundation.

After pouring the foundation, you need to lay the plinth.

The base and plinth are made of brick. In order for the structure to serve for a long time, the base is insulated from steam. Another option for protecting walls from moisture and premature destruction is a columnar foundation located on load-bearing supports, which are located strictly at certain points where the load on the structure is maximum. If there is a brick partition or other heavy structural elements inside the structure, additional protective supports are also installed under them. In order for such a structure without a foundation to be reliable, it is recommended to fold it into half a brick, and not load the floors with additional heavy elements.

We build walls

For the construction of walls and a brick sauna stove, it is recommended to use ceramic blocks that do not absorb moisture and have high performance characteristics.

  • with air gaps no more than 60 mm wide;
  • ring-shaped masonry, when the gap between the outer and inner rows is filled with insulation;
  • without the formation of voids inside, but the outer walls in this case must be finished with a dense thermal insulator.

The solution must be mixed thoroughly.

For the construction of walls, a cement-sand mortar is prepared. The sand fraction should be no more than 2.6 mm. The solution must be mixed well, then proceed to laying. The base is formed only from solid bricks; hollow blocks can be used for the walls. It is important to control the width of the joints, which should not exceed 1-2 cm. At the stage of wall construction, windows are formed in the brick bathhouse and a door portal. To strengthen the portal and window opening when laying out the walls, jumpers are installed, and the side surfaces are insulated with roofing felt.

It is recommended to install wooden windows for a bathhouse. This way the structure will “breathe” and excess moisture will not accumulate inside. To increase the usable area, it is recommended to connect the veranda to the bathhouse. When the brick box is completely formed, it is covered with a ceiling and the roof is covered.

Which material to choose?

On the modern market you can find several types of bricks:

  • Red ceramic hollow and solid. Ceramic bricks can be either facing or masonry. Solid brick is a strong, durable and frost-resistant material. It is used for laying load-bearing walls, plinths, ventilation ducts and chimneys. The disadvantage is the high thermal conductivity, which is why the outer walls are laid out in two rows. Solid brick is a heavy material, so the foundation must be quite strong to support the weight of the walls. The cost of the material is high, since a lot of raw materials are required for production.

Hollow brick has low weight and good thermal insulation qualities. It is not suitable for laying plinths and chimneys.

  • Ceramic porous. It is made using a clay mixture with the addition of sawdust. During firing, sawdust burns, forming air pores in the material that prevent air penetration. This achieves thermal conductivity close to that of wood. This building material is lightweight, durable, and has good heat and sound insulation properties.

  • White silicate. This durable material has good thermal insulation properties, but does not tolerate temperature changes and is destroyed by moisture.

  • Fireproof fireclay. The material with a granular structure is made by sintering fireclay powder with crushed refractory clay. It is not used for laying walls. It is used for the construction of structures that need to withstand high temperatures - stoves and fireplaces. Refractory bricks accumulate heat, maintain the temperature of the furnace for a long time, and release heat as they cool.

Before you start building a bathhouse, you need to correctly draw up a drawing (project) of the future building. All features of the structure should be taken into account: appearance, number and size of rooms, communication wiring diagram, weight distribution of structures, calculation of the amount of necessary materials. The simplest designs of small-sized baths consist of one room, which combines a steam room, a washing room and a changing room.

True, this option is not very convenient, so in most drawings the buildings consist of rooms such as:

  • steam room. It is important to ensure that the door opens outward, as required by fire safety regulations. It is recommended that the height from floor to ceiling in the steam room does not exceed 2.5 m. This will allow you to spend less material resources, time and effort on building a bathhouse and heating the premises to the desired temperature;
  • rest room. Usually a table and comfortable furniture are installed in it so that you can sit down, have a snack and chat;
  • dressing room. It can also be used as a dressing room by installing wardrobes and clothes hangers;
  • washing. It is a shower room or a swimming pool.

Foundation

If you have a ready-made project for the future bathhouse, you can begin building the foundation. Considering that brick buildings are quite heavy, the foundation must be strong to support the weight of the structure. The best choice is a strip foundation.

The construction of the foundation consists of the following stages:

  • preparing and clearing the area of ​​various debris, stones, unwanted vegetation and other things;
  • marking the future building according to the project. Pegs are installed along the walls and in the corners, between which a strong thread is stretched;

  • excavation of a trench (depth 0.3–0.8 m, width 25–40 cm). It is important to take into account that the foundation must begin at least a meter above the groundwater flow;
  • a layer of sand (10–20 cm) is poured onto the bottom of the trench, moistened with water and compacted thoroughly;
  • a layer of crushed stone is laid on top of the sand layer, moistened, and compacted tightly;

  • 1-2 layers of waterproofing material are placed on the resulting pillow. Most often, roofing felt or geotextiles are used;
  • installation of formwork from boards. It should rise 30–60 cm above the ground;
  • a reinforced base of metal rods with a diameter of 1.2–1.6 cm is mounted inside. The rows are connected to each other with strong wire;

  • Be sure to wet the internal parts of the formwork in advance;
  • Cement-concrete mortar is poured inside the resulting structure. You can make it yourself using sifted river or quarry sand, fine crushed stone, cement and water;
  • formwork is usually removed after 5–14 days, depending on the air temperature. To prevent deformation in the first few days, the base should be watered 3-4 times a day. In order to protect the foundation from precipitation, a blind area 1 m wide is poured from clay and crushed stone. The cement hardens to the required strength in 28 days.

It is imperative to make holes for ventilation in the foundation with a diameter of 8–12 cm and build a separate foundation for the stove if you plan to use a heater.

Considering that concrete is capable of absorbing moisture well, before starting to lay the walls, it is recommended to carefully treat the above-ground part with special waterproofing mixtures. At the stage of foundation construction, it is necessary to provide for the wiring of water supply and drainage systems. Electricity and gas can be installed later.

Walls

After completing the foundation waterproofing work, you can begin building the walls. The single-row ligation system is most often used, since it is easy to use and can be erected without problems alone. This system consists of alternating spoon and butt rows of bricks. A spoon row is a row of bricks that are laid with their sides along the wall, and a butt row is laid with their ends facing the outside of the wall.

There are three types of brick walls:

  • solid - the brick is laid in two rows without a gap between the rows. It is more durable;
  • with a ventilation gap of 40–60 mm;
  • lightweight. This type consists of two walls, between which insulation (expanded clay or fine slag) is poured.

Lightweight masonry is most often used, since it reduces the pressure on the foundation and saves on building materials. Regardless of the type of masonry, walls should be built from the corners. Initially, you need to lay out six rows of bricks on the mortar in the corners. You need to run a cord along each row.. They are wrapped around nails, which are inserted into the seams between the bricks at a distance of 3–4 mm from the vertical of the row. This determines the evenness of the masonry. For the same purpose, a building level and plumb line are used.

It is recommended to lay out the base of the bathhouse from solid bricks, and make the walls themselves from hollow bricks. During laying, you need to do everything quickly so that the cement mortar does not set prematurely. When carrying out construction work in the summer, the brick must first be moistened with water. The thickness of the cement mortar layer should be 2–3 cm.

There are several variations of solid masonry, including:

  • "single-row"– constant change of splice and spoon rows;
  • "multi-row"– bonded rows go through 5-6 spoon rows.

When laying bonded rows, it is necessary to apply the mortar with an indentation of 10 mm when filling joints and by 30–35 mm when laying waste areas. If there are bricks with various chips and defects, then they can be used for laying tray rows, with the exception of corners and support areas.

It is imperative to build a screen for the furnace from refractory bricks. It serves as a kind of case for the stove and promotes smooth heating.

Roof and floor

The roof structure can be made in one, two or more slopes. It should be taken into account that the more complex the roof structure, the more expensive the installation will be. The step-by-step sequence of work also depends on the choice of design. Holes for mounting pins are drilled in the upper rows of walls. The Mauerlat and ceiling joists are mounted on top of them.

If the ends of the beams come into contact with the walls, they are wrapped with roofing felt. Then the flooring is constructed from unedged boards. At the same stage, the hole for the chimney is determined.

To increase the service life of ceiling joists, they must be covered with a waterproofing layer. You can use fabric absinthe, which is convenient to fasten with construction staples. A layer consisting of a mixture of clay and sawdust is poured on top. After drying, it is sprinkled with sand.

Where the chimney comes into contact with the ceiling, it is lined with sheets of metal.

After this, the rafter system is assembled. The rafter legs are attached to the Mauerlat using metal corners and self-tapping screws.

If the roof has two or more slopes, then additional supports are installed between the slopes. A sheathing of small slats is installed on top of the beams, covered with waterproofing and corrugated sheets, metal tiles or other modern analogues. If necessary, make a counter-lattice.

To install the floor, beams with a section of 15x10, 25x10 mm are used, which are mounted to the bottom of the walls using metal corners. Bars are nailed to the joist on both sides - the basis for the subfloor. A board is attached on top of them, then a layer of waterproofing, insulation and a second layer of waterproofing. After which the finishing floor is installed.

Insulation and waterproofing

Waterproofing and insulation are necessary to improve the functional qualities of a brick bathhouse.

Waterproofing can be done in two ways:

  • painting method– from the inside, all surfaces of the bathhouse are covered with waterproofing agents: bitumen mastic or epoxy resins;
  • pasting method– internal surfaces can be lined with sheet or rolled roofing felt. Foiled polyethylene foam is also used for these purposes. It is convenient to fix it using wooden slats, and the joints must be sealed with aluminum tape. It should be installed from the inside of the bath with the mirror side facing up.

It is necessary to leave a gap between the polyethylene foam and the wall.

Thermal insulation is the most important aspect in creating a bathhouse. The functionality of the room depends on it. If the bathhouse does not warm up well, all the work will go down the drain.

In rooms with high humidity, it is important to achieve excellent ventilation of insulation materials. Thus, the bath will warm up faster and the amount of condensation will decrease, since it will evaporate faster.
