How to make a frame for a bouquet from wire. Frame for a bouquet made of different materials: advice from experienced florists

Some people think that floristry is a simple activity that anyone can learn. Others believe that natural or artificial floristry is an impossible task for an ordinary person who does not have the proper knowledge, skills, artistic taste and creative thinking. In fact, both the first and second statements are true.

Floristry is the decorative and applied art of assembling various flower arrangements, which has its own technical and creative side. This means that anyone can truly learn, especially if they have the desire. Therefore, if the birthday of your beloved friend, mother is approaching, or if roses have simply bloomed in the garden, do not put off your first lesson and try to collect a bouquet yourself. Simple and clear recommendations from an experienced florist will help with this.

Information: The main task of floristry is to provide floral decoration for interiors, outfits, cars for a holiday, compiling everyday compositions for work, commercial and residential premises, as well as assembling bouquets of various types and purposes. In addition, the florist can create accessories from flowers - frames, arches, garlands, baskets, handbags and even necklaces with bracelets.

Preparatory stage

Assembling bouquets begins with preparing raw materials and tools. Raw materials are primarily the flowers themselves, as well as auxiliary elements:

  • small buds and flowers;
  • green twigs, grass, ferns;
  • decorative accessories - butterflies, bears, hearts, etc.

The tools you need are scissors or pruning shears, a knife; a stapler and office adhesive tape will speed up and make the work easier (florists use special professional tape). You will need decorative mesh, film or paper to wrap the finished bouquet, perhaps some additional tools or decorative details.

Important: in order for the bouquet to look harmonious, you should remember one simple rule: the part of it that will be in a bunch or in a vase is equal to approximately one third of the total height of the composition. There are other proportions - five parts of the height of the flowers remain outside, three parts are immersed in the vase. This rule works for classic vertical bouquets.

Assembly options

Florists have several ways to assemble bouquets. You can’t just gather flowers and greenery in an armful, tie it with twine and wrap it in oilcloth - it will be ugly and sloppy. Although in some cases professionals use exactly this technique to obtain an original and unusual composition. But for beginners, it’s better to familiarize yourself with the classic techniques of assembling bouquets, and then move on to creative experiments. There are these main types:

  1. Parallel.
  2. Spiral.
  3. Asymmetric.

The frame technique for making a bouquet is one of the most complex and time-consuming. But the result is very impressive. This was brilliantly demonstrated by florist Zhanna Semenova, who created 8 creative compositions at a show at the Floral Training Center.

When creating a frame bouquet, it is important not only to develop a concept for the future work, but also to think through every step of its production. The composition is maintained taking into account the nature of the flowers: you cannot take protea, rose, anthurium, etc. at the same time. The choice of flowers should correspond to the general concept of the bouquet and the character and texture of the frame. Only in this way will she acquire the necessary integrity and mood.

When working on frame bouquets, the use of glue is often required, but an important principle must be maintained: when working with floral material, always use only special glue, and only when working with non-natural material, ordinary PVA glue is acceptable.

Flowers for frame bouquets require preparation: they are almost completely cleared of leaves, leaving only the inflorescence. Some stubborn flowers require preliminary taping.

The frame for the first bouquet is made of soft long Weymouth pine needles (Pinus strobus). The needles are attached to a cardboard base in the shape of a ring using double-sided tape and floral glue, then a wire frame, which is again covered with needles and stitched with wire. The frame is decorated at the top and bottom with beautiful white floral paper, creating a winter mood. Based on the weight of the frame, it is easy to determine how many supports will be needed for the bouquet to maintain balance. In this case, the frame is quite heavy, so 7 supports are needed. The supports in this bouquet have not only a technical, but also a decorative function. The nervous texture of pine needles is balanced by calm peonies (Paeony) lisianthus (Lisianthus), pittosporum (Pittosporum), and their delicate pink and white tones are perfectly set off by bluish pine needles. Ivy shoots complete the composition, uniting it into a single whole. The needles retain their decorative qualities for quite a long time, so by replacing the flowers, you can experiment with them and come up with a completely different bouquet.

This frame consists of bleached twigs that are drilled and connected with wire. For roses or other significant flowers this frame is too rough, but for greenery and delicate spring flowers it is very good. We fix the bottom on a one-legged support - a round piece of cardboard, tinted black, to match the color of the earth. Place sprouted grass at the bottom, pierce the cardboard and insert buttercups (Ranunculus) yellow-red in color, reminiscent of pockmarked chickens. We glue the quail egg shells with floral glue. The result is a fresh and elegant Easter composition.

For the next composition, a frame of branches tinted black is used. Using floral glue, glue large sunflower seeds onto it. Attach the pomegranate halves. The rigid supply of the frame dictates the use of exotic plants of rich colors. First we install black callas. Anthurium (Anthurium) pre-tapping to give the flower the desired position. Red roses "Grand Prix", bright pink nerine inflorescences (Nerine) pink sweet pea flowers (Lathyrus) will dilute the dark tones of the composition. Since all the flowers are without leaves, let's add some trachelium (Trachelium), green pittosporum (Pittosporum), cattail leaves (Thypha) and ivy shoots (Hedera).

The fourth composition uses a wire frame in the form of a flat cylinder. It must be carefully braided with cattail leaves (Typha), so that the wire is not visible. The top can also be covered with cattail weave, but in this case purple yarn is used. We close the central hole with a piece of floral wire mesh and proceed to placing flowers - half-opened pink peonies (Paeony) lilac-blue hyacinths (Hyacinthus), white lisianthus (Lisyanthus), Nerine (Nerine) sweet pea (Lathyrus) and fottinia branches (Photinia).

And one of those present aptly called this composition “Alpine slide.” The frame for it is made in the form of a tape consisting of pine needles stitched between two layers of paper. On the outside we decorate the surface with white openwork floral paper. We lay the ribbon in the form of a spiral and stitch it with wire so that between the turns there are spaces of different shapes that will be filled with flowers. We pierce it diametrically with wire and attach white beads to the protruding ends with a hot gun. The frame is finished, and you can start decorating it with flowers. Trachelium is ideal for this purpose. (Trachelium)– it is voluminous, airy, but not significant, it will serve as a good filling. The main one here is the hellebore (Heleborus), which is assigned the top of the composition, the pedestal.

The “openwork nest” for the next bouquet is made of curved willow branches. The shape of the frame dictates the use of plants with flexible stems. First we install scindapsus shoots into it (Epipremnum) and ivy (Hedera), from which it is necessary to remove some of the leaves, since the vines evaporate too much moisture. We place orchids - phalaenopsis - in the recess of the frame (Phalaenopsis) and miltonidium (Miltonidium). We thread cattail leaves along the outer part of the frame (Typha) and graceful white callas (Zantedeschia). We complement the composition with pink sweet peas, which enhances the feeling of lightness. The presentation of flowers in this bouquet is natural, all flowers are on living stems, they are not tapped.

The material for this unusual frame is “sausages” made of pine needles. Bergras is also suitable for their manufacture. (Bergras), In summer you can use cereals. We place bunches of pine needles (or grass) on wire 1.5 mm thick and wrap them with thin wire, adding new layers. The length of the “sausages” is approximately 60 cm. We decorate the finished sausages with white mohair yarn. We give them a twisted shape and make a frame out of them, connecting them together with pieces of wire. The ends of the “sausages” go upward, where the flowers will be integrated, the middle forms a plane. To give the frame rigidity, we attach a round wire base to it, to which supports made of thick wire are attached. We place flowers on the frame - first Buplerum (Buplerum) and trachelium (Trachelium) as fillers, then white tulips and lisianthus (Lisianthus). We cover the bottom of the frame with short branches of buplerum. The effect of this composition is unexpected - white flowers and mohair tips of the “sausages” make it airy and transparent, without leaving even a hint of a heavy frame. This technique can be used for a wide variety of floral designs, including hats and dresses.

The latest composition is based on a cone-shaped wire frame. The rules of good form in floristry require that the wire not be visible, so we wrap the frame with soft gray-beige yarn, including the top. Then we tightly braid it with cattail leaves (Typha), giving the appearance of a basket. We fasten the leaves together with floral glue. The very shape of the frame dictates the theme of the composition - you want to fill it with flowers and fruits. First, we wrap the basket with vines (or other vines) and ivy shoots. We also surround the hole for the bouquet with a bunch of vines. We place flowers in the center of the composition - roses "Grand Prix", green chrysanthemums "Anastasia Green", white Alstroemeria (Alstremeria), a couple of nerine inflorescences (Nerine) a little bit of boopleroom (Buplerum). Since there is a basket, there must be abundance, so we add fruit - green apples and spirals of apple skin.

A frame for a bouquet assembled with your own hands can be bought in a store. But it will not always correspond to the general style or meet the specified requirements. In this case, it is easier to make it yourself. You can make the basis for a bouquet from different materials: cardboard, wire, PET bottles, CDs, flowerpots, threads, vines, flexible twigs. Decorate with colored paper, sisal, non-woven fabric, mesh, organza, felt, lace. Handmade frames are not subject to strict rules, so they come in any size and shape.

The cardboard blank for the bouquet must be durable and withstand the weight of the planned composition. Therefore, sheets of stationery cardboard are not suitable for children's creativity. It is better to take the thick walls of a box from household appliances. They use reinforced corrugated material that can withstand loads and does not immediately fall apart when wet or coated with glue. Let's prepare:

  • a piece of cardboard measuring 30 cm * 30 cm;
  • container with a circumference of 20-25 cm;
  • saucer with a diameter of 10-15 cm;
  • a simple pencil;
  • scissors;
  • satin ribbon or floral felt;
  • double-sided tape or reliable glue, for example, “Dragon”;
  • wire 2 m with a cross section of 1.5 mm;
  • wire cutters;
  • bouquet.

Instructions on how to make a bouquet frame yourself:

  1. On a piece of thick cardboard we draw a circle, at least 20-25 cm in diameter. In order not to resort to the help of a compass, take a flat dish. Draw a circle with a pencil.
  2. To make the inner circle, find a saucer or wide cup of suitable diameter. Place it in the middle of the first circle, and inscribe the second one with a pencil.
  3. Cutting the inner circle with scissors is not as easy as the outer one. Take a utility knife or scissors with sharp edges. We pierce a hole, use scissors and carefully cut out. The result is a wide ring, which will become the primary base.
  4. We decorate the blank with a wide satin ribbon or floral felt. If the material is wide, then cut it into strips 2-4 cm wide. With such a width, the fabric will lie smoother and there will be fewer creases and folds.
  5. For reliable fixation, we use double-sided tape, Moment glue, Dragon glue designed for working with fabrics, or a glue gun. Then the stripes will not move, and it will be easier to work with the base for the bouquet.
  6. We wind turns of tape or strips of fabric until the entire base is covered with an even layer.
  7. We make the handle for the frame from wire. On opposite sides of the circle we make two holes next to the bottom side with an awl. We control the process so as not to damage the decorating fabric. We cut pieces 35 cm long from the wire. We make a small hook on the upper edge. We thread it through the bottom side, stick it out through the second hole, and twist it from the bottom side of the cardboard. On the contrary, we perform the same manipulation. In total, we put at least 4 hooks into the base. We twist the long parts of the wire together from below, forming a handle. We wrap the same decorative ribbon or a contrasting color.
  8. Inside such a frame you can insert flower bouquets, candy, and autumn compositions from leaves. It is important to take into account that the cardboard structure will not support a lot of weight. Therefore, if the planned bouquet is significant, it is better to choose a different base option.

On a note! It is not necessary to make the frame round. You can give it any given shape: heart, triangle, square, star or diamond.

Frame with side

For tall flowers or fruit and vegetable bouquets on long skewers, frames with a side are suitable. The main rule of such a composition is that it should not be very heavy, otherwise it will be inconvenient to carry and hand it over. We will prepare the following tools and materials:

  • cardboard 0.5 m * 0.5 m;
  • a flat dish with a diameter of 20-30 cm or a compass;
  • pencil;
  • scotch;
  • scissors with sharp ends;
  • glue "Dragon" or glue gun;
  • fabric for decoration: felt, sisal or organza;
  • small pieces of floral mesh in different colors: brown, burgundy, orange, white;
  • satin or polyester ribbons: red and orange;
  • bouquet of fresh flowers: gerberas, roses, freesias, aspidistras;
  • decorative pins;
  • butterflies to decorate the bouquet.

Making a frame with your own hands with step-by-step photos:

  1. For the base, we will take thick cardboard with a reinforced corrugated layer inside. We draw and cut out a circle with a diameter of 20-30 cm. In the middle we make cross-shaped cuts with a stationery knife or sharp scissors. We bend the corners to the side and cut off the excess. It turns out to be a circle with a square in the middle.

  1. From a piece of the same cardboard we cut a strip 8-12 cm wide with a length equal to the circumference. We glue it to the round blank with tape on the inside and outside. We try to do this carefully so that the parts fit securely to each other. It turns out to be a kind of round box with a hole in the bottom. If it is inconvenient to work with tape, cut 6-8 strips of cardboard 2 cm * 8 cm. Glue them along the entire circumference from the inside. We connect the bottom and side at equal distances. We use a glue gun or reliable glue such as “Dragon” or “Titan”.

  1. We decorate with translucent fabric or thin wrapping paper, which is used to insulate glass objects. You can use another thin fabric or floral packaging: organza, sisal or felt. We move the material 3-4 cm inward and glue it. It makes no sense to decorate the entire inner surface of the sides, because it will not be visible under the assembled bouquet. But, if the composition is not very dense, then it is better to bring the fabric to the bottom from the inside.

  1. For decoration, take strips of dense mesh of different colors: yellow, orange, white, burgundy, brown. Glue on top of translucent fabric. We fasten with glue in two places on the inside. On the side at the top and near the square hole at the bottom.

  1. We glue satin or polyester ribbons, for example, orange and red, in a circle. We decorate the ribbons with bows.

  1. Inside the frame with sides we place a bouquet of flowers with long stems. We decorate the flower stems with an orange satin ribbon, matching the decor. We fasten the tape with pins, as shown in the photo.

On a note! The stems of the flowers are long, so the bouquet can be placed in a vase for a short time right in the frame. Then it is better to remove it, and, with a careful approach, you can use the base with sides again.

Light base for a bouquet

A frame based on a CD can serve as a support and decorative element for a small wedding bouquet. Let's take the following tools and materials:

  • disk;
  • white satin ribbon 1.5-2 cm wide;
  • translucent lace 2-3 cm wide;
  • glue gun;
  • scissors;
  • matches for singeing the edge of the tape;
  • plastic bottle or cling film sleeve;
  • decorative elements to taste;
  • polystyrene foam 4-5 cm high or floral foam for living plants;
  • live or artificial bouquet.

Let's make a weightless frame for the bride's bouquet with our own hands:

  1. Cut the lace into strips 5 cm long.
  2. Using a glue gun, glue the lace onto the disk as a base. You can do it differently. Do not cut into strips, but wrap the disk tightly, passing the lace through the middle. Glue the fabric to the base with a glue gun.
  3. We make ruffle loops from white ribbon. We cut the tape into strips 8-10 cm long. We singe the edges with a burning match so that the fabric does not fray. Fold the segment in half, insert the connected part through the middle under the lower part of the disk. We make from 8 to 10 ruffles, gluing them slightly overlapping each other.
  4. Cut off the top and bottom of a plastic bottle. Leave a flat middle. Cut lengthwise. We tightly twist the resulting rectangle into a tube. This will be the handle.
  5. Another option to make a handle is to use a sleeve from any roll: cling film, parchment paper, baking foil. We glue the cardboard sleeve from below to the disk.
  6. We decorate the leg with a white satin ribbon. We wrap the tape overlapping in tight turns. We fix each one from the inside to a cardboard sleeve. This will help keep the leg neat and the fabric in place.

Such a frame is suitable for a bouquet of a bride’s double. A composition made of foamiran, corrugated paper or artificial flowers will look harmonious.

Both the base and the bouquet will be light, so they are suitable for safely throwing to the bridesmaids.

Wire frame

Cute frames are made from floral wire. Let's prepare:

  • dense floral wire 0.3 mm thick – 10 pcs.;
  • thin floral wire 0.1 mm – 1 pc.;
  • green tape, if not available, can be replaced with narrow tape;

Master class on creating a floral frame with your own hands:

  1. We retreat 5-7 cm from the edge and tighten the bundle of floral wire into one thin piece. We fasten it on top with adhesive green tape. We make 2-3 layers, we get a handle, which we will later hold the structure when assembling the bouquet.
  2. We bend all the wires from the middle outward at the same distance from each other.
  3. We twist two adjacent wires together to a length of 3-4 cm. We place the edges-rays to the sides.
  4. We again connect the adjacent rays to a length of 3-4 cm. Repeat 3 times.
  5. The result is a cellular pattern. Closer to the center there are smaller cells, and larger ones towards the periphery.

Video of the master class on YouTube:

Interesting! If you take not floral wire, but steel wire with a cross-section of 1-1.5 mm, the frame will turn out to be very rigid and reliable. It can bear a lot of weight. But it will be more difficult to twist such a wire by hand. You will need pliers, wire cutters and male help.

The base for a bouquet in the shape of a bell looks unusual and stylish. Let's make a few preparations. You will need:

  • 1 liter plastic bottles of the same type;
  • round branches as thick as the width of the neck;
  • PVA or “Dragon” glue;
  • colored foil 2-3 colors;
  • sandpaper;
  • scissors.

Instructions for making a bell frame:

  1. Wash bottles well if there were any drinks in them before.
  2. We strip the branches of their bark and remove all twigs. Sand with sandpaper.
  3. Pour glue inside the bottle. Insert a stick into the neck. Turn the bottle over and let it harden. The point is that the stick sticks tightly to the neck and does not budge.
  4. Cut off the bottom of the bottle. We level the edge and sand it with sandpaper.
  5. We decorate the “bell” with colored foil or corrugated paper. Glue it to the bottle with a thin layer of office glue.
  6. Inside such a stand we put foam plastic, for inanimate elements, or a floral sponge, for living flowers.

Interesting! You can use mixed flower arrangements with candies. This option will greatly please a first-grader on the first bell.

The base for a bouquet of threads performs more of a decorative function than a supporting one. You will need:

  • thick colored threads;
  • PVA glue;
  • plate;
  • wide brush 4-5 cm;
  • cling film;
  • scissors;
  • wide container with a rounded bottom.

Step-by-step instructions for a thread frame:

  1. Unwind the threads from the skein.
  2. Pour PVA glue into a plate and add water in a 1:1 ratio. We lay the threads, leaving the very tip outside. We note the time for impregnation - 15-25 minutes.
  3. Turn the container upside down. Cover with cling film. We begin to lay out the threads, carefully taking out the dry tip from the glue. We try to make the frame dense, interweaving the threads in the form of a mesh.
  4. We bring the sides to the desired height. Leave to dry overnight. In the morning the thread base will be ready. Remove from the container and add a wire handle.

On a note! If such a frame contains a bouquet of flowers with thick stems, then the cells should be left larger.

Flower pot frame for flower arrangement

To make such a base for a bouquet with your own hands, you will need a ready-made flower pot, cache-pot or ceramic container of a suitable size. The pot needs to be balanced, and then we pour small pebbles or grains inside. For constant balance, you can fill the mold to the middle with plaster. Such actions will make the flowerpot heavier, but it will stand very securely and at the same time support the weight of the bouquet.

In the prepared pot you can install not only artificial, but also fresh flowers. In this case, fill the upper half of the container with a floral sponge and piaflor, saturated with moisture. When the bouquet withers, you can remove the sponge from the flowerpot and install fresh flowers. A flower pot frame is also suitable for candy bouquets, fruit and vegetable bouquets, and topiary.

You always want to surprise with original and unusual gifts. How nice it is to see happy eyes if the surprise was a success. One of the options for such a present would be a composition on a frame. The frame for a bouquet or composition is the basis that gives it shape and creates clarity of lines. To create it, various objects are used, such as a basket or a vase. In addition to the finished base, all kinds of materials can be used, from which frames are created.

To make a frame you don’t have to be a florist; anyone can make it with their own hands from a minimum of materials. It will be a compromise to the usual bouquet of flowers. The materials used are paper, cardboard, wire, branches, etc. The frame of branches can be either wicker or assembled in any way. Wire can be used to create a wide variety of shapes, including a star, heart, flower or ball. In addition, it is not at all necessary to fill the frame only with fresh flowers. You can create bouquets from sweets, toys, fruits, berries and even socks. Below you can watch master classes on how to make frames for various bouquets yourself.

Master class: assembling a frame for a bouquet of fresh flowers

The frame makes the bouquet unusual and looks much more interesting than usual. Below we will show how to make such a frame for flowers.

To work you will need:

  • Scissors
  • Secateurs
  • Wire
  • Thermal gun
  • Double sided tape
  • Glue for fresh flowers
  • Cardboard
  • Decorative foliage
  • Beads
  • Rope

Let's start tinkering.

Cut out two identical circles from cardboard. We glue the wire to one of them using a heat gun. This will be the frame mount. Next, we glue the second circle on top of the wire, thereby covering it. The base of the frame is ready. If desired, you can wrap the wire with tape.

Let's start decorating the base. To do this you will need several types of decorative greenery. We attach the leaves overlapping with double-sided tape on both sides of the frame to cover the cardboard. The frame is ready. All that remains is to decorate it.

We make jewelry of different sizes from rope and decorate it with beads. We glue them to the frame using glue for fresh flowers.

Next, we insert a beautiful bouquet, which can be either ready-made or assembled yourself. To make the bouquet stem look neat, you can make a handle from a satin ribbon and secure it with pins.

Trying to make a durable frame for a bouquet of toys

Today, bouquets of soft toys are becoming increasingly popular. The bouquet can, of course, be purchased ready-made, but it will cost a lot of money. A gift created with your own hands will bring pleasure not only to you, but also to the person to whom you give it. To make it, any toys of your choice will be useful. Our master class will help you make the frame on which all this beauty will rest. It's not difficult at all. So let's get started.

To work you need:

  • Cardboard or Whatman paper
  • Scissors
  • Thermal gun
  • Corrugated paper
  • Toys
  • Decorations (ribbons, beads, flowers)

Let's start creating.

We make the base by drawing a circle on a sheet of cardboard. To make it even, use any round object of the required size, for example a round dish. The diameter is approximately 14 cm. And be sure to mark the center. From another sheet of cardboard we make a handle 30 cm long and 15 -18 cm high. Cut the circle to the center and cut out a small corner (like a piece of cake). This is necessary in order to make a cone. The larger the corner you cut, the deeper the cone will be. Glue the cone together and make a tube for the handle. Spare parts are ready.

We make cuts on the handle and bend it. We cut a round hole in the cone and also make notches. Glue the cone and handle together.

Now you need to cover the frame with corrugated paper. First, we take measurements of the paper, taking into account the fact that the corrugation will need to be stretched a little around the edges. Then we glue it to the frame from the inside. We make cuts inside and glue them. It is necessary to cover all the errors so that the cardboard is not visible. Cut a circle out of paper and glue it in the center. We collect the paper from below and straighten the folds. Next, glue a piece of corrugation in a circle and fix the handle.

Let's start decorating. This can be done with 2-3 layers of lace or a strip of boa. All that remains is to attach the toys to the frame. To do this, take two strips of tape (preferably the same color as the paper) and attach them to the base (with needles or glue).

Now we tie the toy. We do the same with all the toys with which you want to decorate the bouquet. With this method of fastening, the toys are removable. We decorate the composition with bows, beads and flowers.

A bouquet of toys on a frame is ready.
