Wicker bicycle made from newspaper tubes. Bicycle plant pots made from newspapers

My dear lovers of weaving from newspapers. I present to your attention the very beautiful works of the Czech craftswoman Jiřina.L. Flower pots in the shape of a wheelbarrow and a bicycle are woven from newspaper tubes using spiral weaving. The works are painted with stain and covered with two layers of varnish. I have already published a master class on spiral weaving, quite recently. Weaving with a spiral is very easy and the work turns out even and neat. For those who haven’t seen it, watch the master class on spiral weaving. There are Christmas trees shown there, but if you take, for example, a bottle of hairspray for braiding, you will get exactly what you need)

So, for work you can use newspapers, magazines, notebooks or cash register tape. The tubes can be painted both before and after weaving. Spiral weave can be painted very well with automotive spray paint. Since this is a flower pot, the work needs to be coated with two layers of wood varnish. I wish everyone good luck in their creativity!

And one more thing) It’s best to braid a bottle of hairspray, it’s light. While braiding, gradually pull it out of the work, and braid it again.

Newspaper planters are often made for potted flowers. One of the most interesting ways to use newspaper is to create flower pots on the wall in the form of some figures or paintings with your own hands.

Flower pots without bottom

  • Cut out a circle from cardboard or thick paper, choose the diameter yourself, to fit your pot.
  • We make holes every 2 centimeters on the contour. You can make them with an awl or knitting needle.
  • We twist the tubes from the newspaper and insert them into the holes of our workpiece.
  • Leave the “tail” under the circle 3 centimeters in size - it must be bent, but not glued.
  • We put the pot on the cardboard and start weaving. We weave in a checkerboard pattern. We choose three-tier weaving, when we weave 3 sticks after 3 into the workpiece.
  • We weave to the top edge of the pot, even a centimeter higher.
  • We remove the pot. We close the top and bottom with a regular fold. We cut off all excess.
  • Cover with a mixture of PVA glue and water in a 1:1 ratio.
  • Then we coat it with varnish.

Flowerpot-bicycle

For the product we need:

  • A4 newspaper;
  • knitting needle or skewer with a diameter of 2 mm;
  • scissors;
  • glue, preferably PVA;
  • clothespins.

Newspaper sticks

  • Cut a sheet of newspaper into 3 equal pieces vertically.
  • We place a knitting needle on one “strip”, an angle of 20 degrees.
  • We wrap the paper around the knitting needle and glue it.
  • You need to make as many of these tubes as possible so that there is enough for a flowerpot.
  • For a bicycle you need to “build up” several tubes. To do this, take two tubes, insert one into the other, and glue them.

Rear wheels

You need to make 2 wheels. For them you need to make a zigzag ribbon.

We use 2 sticks. For informational purposes: 2 colors – blue and red.

Step by step weaving:

  • We place the red stick inside the blue one.
  • Move the edges of the blue tube apart at an equal distance from each other.
  • We wrap the right side of the red stick towards us and place it on top of the blue one.
  • We wrap the left side of the red tube away from us and place it under the blue one.
  • We place the red sticks one under the other.
  • The left half of the blue tube must be placed behind the red tubes.
  • Let's wrap the right side of the blue stick. We'll lift it up, then lay it down on the red one.
  • The blue tube must be brought underneath the red one.
  • Then we wrap the red one with the same tube, on top of the blue one and in the middle.
  • Red tube down behind both blue ones, but onto the rightmost red stick.
  • We bring the same tube to blue.
  • The right red tube must be placed in the middle between the blue ones.
  • In the same way, place the left blue stick on top of the red one.
  • We stretch the left blue tube down under the red ones and then place it on top of the right one.
  • Then we do everything according to the same pattern, to the length we need.
  • We connect and get a circle, which we lubricate with glue.

Wheel spokes:

  • you need to take 5 short tubes, fold them in half and connect them so that there is a hole in the center for the bushing and axle;
  • wheel diameter – 7 cm;
  • insert the spokes inside the wheel;
  • grease with glue;
  • Insert the axles for the wheels into the bushings - they connect the wheels and the basket.

Wheel axle:

  • take 2 short sticks;
  • lengthen the tubes, twist them like a spiral;
  • glue, dry.

Front wheel

We only make one, it should be larger than the rear ones. Diameter – 14 cm. Number of knitting needles – 12 pcs. The wheel manufacturing technique is repeated. When we insert the axle into the bushing, it is necessary to add another tube - a simulator for pedals. Take 2 more short tubes. We “break” each one so that it looks like a pedal or a triangle, and insert them into the simulator. We glue it.

Connecting all the parts of the bike

  • Raise the right and left axles up and bring them together. Wrap the frame with a stick and glue it.
  • Make 4 turns, add a tube, fold in half. This will be the bicycle frame.
  • Pull the main stick forward and wrap it around the frame. Technique: the first row is a working stick from below, the second row is from above, etc. There should be 6 turns on both sides, then we make the rows wider.
  • Glue another stick for the saddle.
  • We weave 7 rows.
  • Add a stick to the bicycle frame, wrap it as with a saddle. We weave 8 turns.
  • Add a horizontal stick for the rudder.
  • We braid the steering wheel with a working stick.
  • Make 4 turns. Cut the tubes on the frame and glue them.
  • We put the working one on the frame ones and also glue them together.
  • Glue three sticks to the saddle and weave a spikelet. It will be needed to connect the saddle and seatpost, and is attached to the rear wheels.
  • We insert the flower basket between the wheels, place their axles inside the flowerpot and glue them.
  • The 4 seatposts need to be brought together and wrapped with one stick. We cut off the ends. Glue and dry. Cover with varnish.

Hello, dear friends. My name is Elena Puzanova.

Wicker items have confidently and permanently entered our everyday life. They give the room an original and stylish look. Baskets, flower pots, bread bins, trays, etc., woven from paper (newspaper) tubes exist harmoniously in a modern interior. Finished products are in no way inferior in appearance to products made from wicker. Using various weaving techniques, products are created, the range of which can vary from light, elegant panels to various interior decor items, and even furniture.

All of us, lovers of everything new and unusual in weaving from paper wicker, sometimes have to repeat ourselves, weave to order. After such work, you always want to take a break from routine, standards and exercise your hands with something extraordinary.

In this video tutorial I will tell you how to weave a flowerpot-bicycle from paper (newspaper) tubes. This weaving method is very simple and even if you are new to weaving from newspaper tubes, it will not be difficult for you to weave the same one.

To work you will need:

— A4 consumer paper,

- knitting needle with a diameter of 2 mm,

- scissors,

- PVA glue,

- a few clothespins,

- receipt tape (or strip of paper),

- a small jar,

- 2 straight sticks or skewers for shish kebab,

- acrylic lacquer,

- brush for applying varnish,

- decor - optional.

Coloring the tubes:

- 0.5 liters of water,

- 1 tsp. acrylic varnish,

- 1 tsp. construction color blue,

- a few drops of greenery,

- a plumbing pipe with a plug with a diameter of 4 cm.

If the tubes are made from newspapers with a font, then it is better to then paint the finished product with white acrylic paint with PVA glue, and then paint it in the desired color.

Admire, rejoice, give as a gift!!!

Best regards, Elena Puzanova!
