How to make a cup for a fishing slingshot. Bait slingshot: setup and use

With its help, balls are obtained easily and quickly. The bait is placed inside the large bowl, and the small bowl is pressed on top. Next, you need to squeeze well and press the button located on top of the small bowl. A ball will come out of the hole.

Use of slingshots

To cast the bait, place it inside the slingshot cup. Take it in your hand and place it near your belt. With the other hand, they stretch the rubber bands to a certain distance, which determines the flight range of the mixture.

Next, the cup is released with the hand near the belt, after which, due to the contraction of the strands, it moves to the handle of the slingshot, imparting a certain speed to the ball of bait. After the cup stops, the ball flies further - to the desired place on the reservoir. By adjusting the position of the hand with the handle, you change the casting distance of the bait.

How to make a slingshot for fishing with your own hands

The modern market offers a fairly large selection of bait slingshots, but many fishermen make models with their own hands, and the resulting designs are not inferior to store-bought ones in terms of efficiency. It is made quite simply and does not require special costs or skills.

At the first stage, we bend the halves of the thick wire into a spear. Then another horizontal bend is made at their ends. Afterwards, you need to wrap the halves with electrical tape and additionally with wire.

The resulting mechanism is mounted on the handle of an old saw or roller. Both ends are securely and tightly fastened so that the spear does not move or dangle.

As a result, you get an excellent slingshot that is simple in design, with the help of which you can easily carry the bait to the required distance without spending a lot of effort and time.

If you do not have such a useful device, you will have to sculpt the balls manually. The main thing is to always take the same portion of bait and try to compress it equally. It is better to take a glass and fill it with the same amount of mixture. You will get a kind of measurement.

Naturally, you won’t be able to drink from such containers in the future. Modern baits contain many chemical additives that are not entirely beneficial for humans. Sometimes even the hands are painted the color of the bait. The same thing will happen with a glass.

Before you form the balls, you need to make the mixture the right consistency. To do this, it is first sifted and moistened in several stages.

Sifting the bait is one of the most important stages of its preparation. In appearance, the bait in the bag is all the same.

But if we pass it through a sieve with a mesh size of 1-2 mm, we will see that in fact it contains even larger components. This happens in almost all bait mixtures.

Some have more, others have less. These items do not need to be thrown away.

They are moistened and easily ground on the same sieve. You should sift the complementary foods several times until you get a homogeneous mixture, like cereal.

Moisten the bait with water from the pond. Sometimes a liquid attractant or molasses is also added to the water.

The modern market provides a fairly large selection of bait slingshots. Nevertheless, many fishermen make models with their own hands.

Homemade designs are not inferior to store-bought ones in terms of efficiency and other parameters. Making a slingshot for fishing with your own hands is quite simple and does not require any special expenses or skills.

Almost anything can be used as a material for making a slingshot. The basis of such a slingshot can be thick wire or rods from old rollers.

Also needed:

  • rubber;
  • insulating tape;
  • insulated single-core wire;
  • thick fabric;
  • handle (you can use an old saw or come up with your own version).

First, we bend the halves of the thick wire into a spear, then at their ends we make another horizontal bend, after which we need to wrap the halves with electrical tape and additionally with wire. The resulting mechanism is mounted on the handle of an old saw or roller. Both ends are securely and tightly fastened so that the spear does not move or dangle.

The next step is to secure the elastic band to the wire with insulating tape. At the last stage, you need to add a rectangular piece of thick fabric to the elastic, in which you need to make holes for the elastic. All components are also held together using insulating tape.

The result is an excellent slingshot with a simple design, with which you can easily carry bait to the required distance.

Operating a slingshot

A slingshot, like any thing, requires certain settings before use. During operation, it may deteriorate, which requires further repair.

Setting up a slingshot involves adjusting it to shoot strictly at the desired distance. This is done by shortening the valley of the rubber bands. Moreover, they do this in such a way that when fully stretched, the strands stretch to the limit of their elasticity and enter the elastic stretching mode.

When setting up, in order to achieve accuracy when sending balls, you can change the thickness of the rubber bands. This operation allows you to achieve accurate hits with a spread of 2...3 m from the fishing center.

Repair of the slingshot may be necessary if, for example, the rubber bands are torn. This problem can be solved in different ways:

  • replacing the torn cord with a new one;
  • tying the ends of the segments: tying the segments themselves with a knot; Place the ends of the segments one on top of the other and rewind the place with thread.

When the handle bends, it is straightened. If the damage is serious, then you can bend another handle from the wire.

You can replace the rubber bands in a slingshot by purchasing the same new ones. A cheaper option is to use a Pezzer catheter, which is sold in pharmacies. The worst option, however, is to cut strands from sheet rubber or latex.

Fishing slingshots

Colmic slingshots

The Kolmik company has been in the fishing products market for a long time; the range of products it produces is extensive and in demand by domestic fishermen. It also produces slingshots, which are used for long-distance casting of bait mixtures.

On the Russian market you can purchase slingshots from three series: LEGEND PULT, ORION PULT, DEVIL PULT. The first presents two models SoftPouch 1 and one SoftPouch2.

Their main difference is the use of rather thin rubber bands with diameters of 3 and 4 mm. In the ORION PULT series, one model is called SoftPouch 3 and contains 5 mm cords.

It differs from the previous one in its thinner plastic handle and the presence of a protective sheath on the branches of the slingshot.

The products of the DEVIL PULT series are rated higher and more impressive than the previous ones. They have more massive handles and a larger set of cups - mesh, solid conical. Four models use rods of different thicknesses: RubberMesh P. – 6 or 7 mm; SoftPouch 4 and PolyMesh.P – 4 mm.

Middy slingshots

Slingshots under the Middy brand are produced as follows: Groundbait Caty, ProLarge 317 Caty, ProLarge 318 Caty, X-Flex MeshPellet Caty, Pro Inter 327 Caty, ProInter 321 Pellet Caty, X-Flex 322 MiniBaits Caty, X-Flex329 PelletCaty.

All products have comfortable handles with branches protected from water. Throwing cups are made conical, of different volumes and for different types of mixtures.

The differences also include rubber bands of different diameters, which determines their capabilities in terms of the casting distance of baits.

Slingshots from Stonfo

There are only four models of slingshots from this company on the market: two without a special name and two under the name MAXI. All have handles of the same shape, but trimmed with plastic of different colors, hard cups of different volumes, latex cords of different diameters (and power).

Among the slingshots offered, there are products that can be used to make ultra-long casts. There are those for which distances of 25...35 m are optimal.

Specifics of feeding

Starter feeding, as a rule, is characterized by an abundant supply of bait to the point. Usually 10 or more balls the size of an orange are thrown. During the fishing process, the point is supplemented with balls of smaller diameter. In this case, it is convenient to use bowls of different sizes.

The rubber band will determine the bait casting distance. To learn how to throw balls accurately, you need to practice.

Take, for example, one tourniquet, attach it to a slingshot and simply shoot pebbles in an open area. In order for the balls to always fly the same distance, you need to learn how to pull the rubber to the same length.

This is achieved through short but persistent training. After numerous casts, you will know exactly how long you need to stretch the rubber to throw the ball at a distance of 40 or 50 meters.

How to achieve good accuracy? To always send the balls to the same place, experienced fishermen and athletes choose the ideal length of the rope. Usually they just shorten it and throw the balls at a 45 degree angle, stretching the rubber to the desired length.

Thus, they fly in the correct trajectories and at a good speed, which evenly fades when the flight passes from the take-off stage to the fall stage.

It must be remembered that a shortened harness wears out faster and the rubber loses its properties. This doesn't happen quickly, so don't worry about it. Moreover, the harnesses are sold in sets of several pieces.

How to shoot with a slingshot correctly?

To learn how to cast bait correctly, you need to hold the slingshot correctly in your hands. On fishing trips you can see how some fishermen, incorrectly holding a slingshot in their fingers, shoot, as they say, at sparrows. The mistake was that the tool was held horizontally, but it should have been held vertically. In this case, the bundles will also be positioned vertically.

With this option, you can achieve the correct angle of the shot to the horizontal plane. This angle, as previously stated, should be 45 degrees. With this value, the ball will fly as far as possible. The result is an ideal trajectory in the form of a parabola.

Gusty and side winds make casting very difficult. It’s good when it’s not constant or very strong.

In such situations, you should either wait for a short lull, or use hard ropes, thanks to which you can give the balls good acceleration. When there is a crosswind, adjusting the casting angle helps to accurately cast the balls.

When there is a headwind, you need to stretch the rubber more to break through the air flow.

Homemade slingshot

Making a slingshot for fishing yourself is not difficult. But save money. There are many options on how to make it. More on one of them later.

The simplest option involves using a Y-shaped fork for the handle, which is cut from tree branches. The cut part is freed from the bark, cleaned and dried. It is better to do the latter longer - if conditions permit, then a month.

In the upper part of the fork of a homemade slingshot for fishing, transverse circular recesses are cut out. Take a rubber tourniquet (for example, buy a Pezzer catheter at a pharmacy), place their ends across the groove and tie it using a groove with a strong thread.

A leather cup is attached to the free ends of the cords. To do this, holes are cut in it, cords are inserted, the ends are placed on the main body and tied with thread.

Especially for lovitut.ru - V.A.N.

E It’s only at first glance that it seems impossible to learn anything new about the slingshot, which many have known since childhood. A pen, a cup and an elastic band, and you have a slingshot. Make a larger cup out of leather or its substitute so that the bait ball fits in, and it seems like it will be fine for baiting the fishing spot.

ABOUT partly yes. But differences, of course, exist, and it is not always possible or desirable to make such a slingshot yourself. And the bait prepared by fishermen is completely different in its composition and consistency. And it doesn’t always make a perfect ball. And most often it is necessary to throw bait over considerable distances, 20 meters or more. And not everyone is able to make such a cast by hand, and it is not easy to make numerous casts by hand throughout the entire fishing.

AND It is precisely to facilitate the process of baiting the fishing spot that slingshots are used. They allow you to bring the bait to the fishing spot further, more, and, most importantly, more accurately. The use of bait slingshots is especially important in windy weather and when fishing or fishing over long distances. Although at close ranges, slingshots are very, very popular, simply because they are convenient and functional.

1. TYPES OF SLINGSHOTS FOR BAIT

P Based on their functional characteristics, slingshots for bait can be divided into 2 types:

  • For small and crumbly bait. This type of slingshot is used for feeding fish in the upper layers of a reservoir, when it is important that the bait, for example, with the addition of maggots, immediately crumbles when it gets into the water and begins to attract fish. This type of slingshot is especially in demand when it is necessary to bait the fishing spot in small and light portions, for example, several granules of bait, or small balls of it. You can also put several maggots in such a small slingshot cup. As a rule, these are small and light slingshots with thin and soft rubber bands and a small cup. And they are used not so much for initial complementary feeding, but rather for supplementary feeding during the fishing process.
  • For bait balls. These are the most common slingshots. As a rule, such slingshots are designed for bait balls of large sizes and dimensions. Such slingshots are most often used for starting complementary feeding, when the “table” for fish is set. In such slingshots, a thicker rubber band and a larger cup are used, since the dimensions and weight of such bait balls are already quite significant. But it should be noted that the bait ball is not a stone, and it is unlikely that you will be able to accurately cast it further than 40 meters, even with a slingshot.

2. SLINGSHOT DESIGN

N It doesn’t really matter whether you use a purchased slingshot or one you made yourself, the requirements for its optimal selection or manufacturing will be approximately the same:

  • Dline of harnesses. In order for the accuracy of casting the bait ball to be high, even at a considerable distance, it is necessary to stretch the rubber cord of the slingshot with the same force, to the same distance and at the same angle. Just don’t try to make this rubber cord long. If the length is excessive, the cup will have to be pulled too far, which obviously will not contribute to the accuracy of casting the bait ball. But a short rubber cord will not be the best option! You will have to make a significant effort to stretch it. It is necessary, experimentally, “for yourself,” to select the most suitable length of rubber bands, which can easily be shortened, or, conversely, replaced with longer ones.

Advice: The rubber band operates in two ranges: elastic and elastic stretching. When the cord is stretched elastically, the force applied for tension remains virtually unchanged. This means that the kinetic energy does not change and the ball will not fly far with such tension. Only in elastic stretching is force applied, kinetic energy increases, and the ball flies far. It is at this border, where stretching without effort turns into stretching the cord with effort, and you should strive to cast bait.

  • Tthickness of the bundles. The thicker the rubber band, the further you can throw the bait, but it will take considerable effort to stretch it. And this has to be taken into account. It is not at all easy to achieve stable casting accuracy throughout the entire fishing trip with such a rigid slingshot. We take into account that the choice of tires is the choice of the distance at which you are going to fish.
  • Hashka slingshot.The most important detail in the design of a slingshot. And the main thing about it is not only its size (or capacity), but its shape, which should be in the form of a cone, and the material, which should not be hard. A cup that is made of rigid plastic is clearly not the best option. From such a hard cup, the bait always tries to spill out or fall out. And slingshot cups are most often used in two types:
    • Cone cup. Such a conical cup is convenient specifically for the initial starting bait, when it is necessary to deliver the bait to the fishing site quickly and in large quantities. This slingshot handles large balls of bait quite successfully, and they fly quite far and accurately.
    • A cup made of mesh in the form of a basket.The advantage of a mesh cup is that it fits tightly, and, most importantly, carefully, around the bait ball without damaging it during the casting process. Slingshots with such baskets are used both for initial baiting and for supplementary feeding during the fishing process. This is the most versatile type of slingshot.
  • Rslingshot tip.The convenience of the handle is of course important, because you will have to hold the slingshot in your hands almost constantly while fishing. And water and bait will definitely get on the handle, and it will fall into the mud, i.e. It obviously won’t be clean during the fishing process. And so that under these conditions the handle does not slip in your hands and the slingshot performs its tasks in any conditions, pay special attention to the convenience and quality of the handle. And especially pay attention to the places where the rubber cord is attached. The design should not only be reliable, but also allow the rubber cord to be changed so that the slingshot does not turn out to be “disposable”.

3. FEED BALLS

R The bait becomes ineffective if you do not pay attention to the bait itself, or more precisely to the production of bait balls for it. Bait balls, in addition to being durable and attractive to fish, must be the same size and weight. Even a small difference in weight can significantly reduce not so much the flight range as the accuracy of casting the bait ball. And this is especially noticeable at bait distances of more than 20 meters.

IN When making bait balls, it is important to take the same amount of bait and compress it with the same force. And here the fisherman’s skill will be of great importance. Experience will come with time, the more such balls you make, the more they will be the same.

  • Casting angle. To make it easier to perceive the required angle for casting the bait ball, the easiest way is to start pulling the slingshot in a vertical plane. That is, a bait ball is placed on a freely dangling cup and the tension of the slingshot begins. Next, you tilt the slingshot, and at the selected angle the cup with the ball is released. Note that the farthest throw of the ball can be done at an angle of 45 degrees. And of course it is necessary to make allowances for the strength and direction of the wind. In case of strong gusty winds, the adjustments will be quite significant.

4. CONCLUSION

TO Of course, the best option is when you have several slingshots for a wide variety of fishing conditions. But such an opportunity does not always exist. But it is advisable to have at least two slingshots for bait. For example, one slingshot for light and crumbly food when fishing at close range, and a longer-range slingshot for heavy and bulky bait balls.

Happy fishing!

For bait, one of the fishing tackles that should serve as an assistant for catching large fish at a distance. After all, it was previously used as a toy, and not a safe one. And after all, the fisherman took such a weapon into his arsenal and uses I catch fish with a slingshot for purposes for which its creator, of course, did not count. After all, along with a cobra and a rocket, this is the most convenient thing, without which fishing, especially sports fishing, is rarely complete.

Slingshot for bait

Let us look in more detail under what circumstances it is best to use it. Firstly, a slingshot for bait is used in fishing areas that are more than 10-15 meters away from the casting point. Up to such a distance it is still possible to relatively accurately throw bait to the angler by hand, and therefore I would not recommend using a slingshot at a distance less than this. Secondly, long-distance fishing is usually done by fans of match fishing rods or long-casting rods. They were the first to use a slingshot for fishing. Currently, stores offer a wide selection of slingshots or catapults for different fishing conditions, but we will highlight two different types.

The first type includes models that are designed for light baits. With their help, the angler feeds bait, mainly with maggots and pellets. Such slingshots are not intended for delivering bait in large quantities and are used for baiting at a short distance from the fishing site. Usually only a small amount of maggot or other granular bait is placed in the cup of such slingshots and shot at the fishing point in small, constant portions. It is advisable to constantly feed a small portion after each cast to the float area, so that if the fish approaches the fishing spot, it will be kept there. By the way, such fishing and feeding with it can lead to the capture of large fish. The main thing is the constant supply of new small portions of bait. But I would like to dwell in more detail on the second type of models, which are designed for long-distance baiting and serve for starting feeding with large balls and supplementary feeding with smaller ones. These are the most common slingshots. When choosing such a slingshot, you should pay attention to the thickness of the rubber from which it is made. In these models, for long distances it is better to choose a thicker type of rubber. After all, when it is strongly tensioned with a load, the rubber carries heavy loads. In addition, he pays attention to the slingshot cup in which the food is placed. The trade offers two types with a mesh basket and in the form of a cone. In slingshots of the first type, small bait balls are well placed, while the second is convenient to use for feeding a small area of more crumbly bait with a large number of granules of various sizes inside it.

The correct bait technique with a slingshot allows you to regularly hit the intended fishing point with balls or pelets. To achieve this, you should position your body and arms correctly when performing feeding. The hand holding the catapult cup should be pressed to the belt approximately always in the same place. The other hand, straightening, stretches the rubber of the slingshot to the same distance. The flight range depends on the tension of the slingshot rubber, and the flight angle is ensured by the position of the hands. If you constantly hold the hand with the cup at waist level, and bring the other hand to eye level at arm's length, then you can achieve a hit to the fishing point. And if you achieve consistent actions, you will be able to accurately perform feeding.

Slingshot for producing bait balls

And finally, at the end of this article, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the new slingshot, which may soon arrive in fishing stores. Although our craftsmen, perhaps, after watching this video, will be able to do something similar themselves. The design of this slingshot, as well as the fishing rod for long-distance casting, was invented by the British. Moreover, what principle did I notice in these two improvements? If in an English fishing rod the float serves as a sinker, with the help of which long-distance casting is possible, then the handle of the slingshot served as a place for tamping the feed.

It is there that the food turns into a strong cylinder, and now such a load is ready to fly over a long distance. The video below shows the full use of the new slingshot feature. For some reason I am inclined to conclude that soon some material and a scheme for its production and implementation by the Russian Uncle Vasya will appear on the pages of the Runet. Sorry, Vasil Vasilich. In the meantime, angler, watch and enjoy. This catapult is very convenient for feeding carp. He does not yet know that soon it will not be small pellets that will fall on his fish head, but large portions of Salapin porridge or another, but no less appetizing.

And this is a video on the topic of a slingshot for bait with the production of bait balls

No tail, no scales!

Once upon a time, hunting was one of the main human activities. Successful results provided people not only with food, but also with clothes, shoes and even jewelry. Nowadays, commercial hunting has practically disappeared, and now it is more of a hobby. Expensive, requiring not only desire, but also certain skills. There are so many weapons and devices of such quality that the hunter often only has to aim and pull the trigger. But real professionals do not recognize such tactics. Some of them also disapprove of this type of weapon such as a slingshot for hunting, considering it ineffective. However, this statement is controversial and to understand who is right, we should take a closer look at this ancient weapon.

No man needs to explain what a slingshot looks like. A homemade slingshot, made from scrap materials, has been in the hands of almost every boy. But it still doesn’t hurt to remember. Moreover, modern hunting slingshots have undergone some improvements, and manufacturers no longer use forked branches specially spotted on a particular tree. Although the principle remained unchanged.

So, a slingshot for hunting consists of three main parts:

  • The base, which simultaneously serves as a handle and a place for attaching the harness.
  • Tourniquet. Power and range depend on its elasticity and resilience.
  • Kozhetok. A specially selected piece of tanned leather into which the projectile is inserted.

Previously, the process of making a slingshot began with finding a suitable branch. The type of wood also mattered. Oak, ash, cherry or apple trees were best suited for this purpose. A dense forked branch was tied with twine and left for a while so that it took the desired shape. Only after this the blank for the slingshot was cut off. They removed the bark from it, polished it and burned it.

A multi-layer elastic cord was attached to the upper ends, in the middle of which a leatherette was attached - a small piece of tanned leather. Then the slingshot had to be shot, because it is impossible to make products identical in strength, range, accuracy and lethality.

Modern models use other materials. More durable and flexible.

Shooting principle

A projectile is placed in the skin. The tourniquet is stretched too much. The distance of the target in this case does not play a role. The projectile must receive the maximum charge of kinetic energy. Not only the power, but also the accuracy of the shot depends on this. Aiming is in progress. Then the skin is sharply released, the tourniquet instantly contracts and sends a projectile. In this case, the speed can reach 70-90 m/s, and the range is 200-250 meters. These indicators do not apply to all types of slingshots. Everything will depend on the material from which it is made, the design features and the type of projectile.

Ammunition

There's not too much variety here. But after many years and even centuries of practical exercises, three types of projectiles for hunting slingshots were chosen:

  • Plastic balls of various weights and sizes. They are not very effective for hunting, or more precisely, they are too light, but they are ideal for training.
  • Metal buckshot and shot. These are just combat options.
  • And, of course, small-sized and suitable-shaped pebbles. This type of shell can be easily found right on the spot.

Advantages and disadvantages

The debate on this topic will never subside. Some consider a slingshot to be an ideal weapon for hunting. Others, on the contrary, do not compare it with the same bow or hunting crossbow. And there’s nothing to say about a good branded gun or carbine. However, not all so simple.

The undeniable advantages of the slingshot:

  • Can be used under any circumstances. Even if you went into the forest to pick mushrooms or go fishing in the river, you can make a targeted shot at any time.
  • Having certain skills, preparing for a shot takes only a few seconds. Which, coupled with noiselessness, makes it possible for a second attempt to hit the target if the first was unsuccessful.
  • The slingshot is easy to carry and even with a supply of shells it is quite light.
  • Relatively high power. There are slingshots whose destructive power reaches 70 meters or more. Of course, it can’t be compared with a gun, but in a dense forest sometimes there are only ten meters left.
  • Silence.
  • And the last argument is cheapness.

What other arguments could there be that speak in favor of a hunting slingshot? They certainly exist, as well as disadvantages:

  • To learn how to properly and successfully use a slingshot for hunting, you will need many days of training.
  • Large game is not available for this type of weapon, although cases of wild boars have been reported.
  • No matter how high-quality the harness is, its service life is very limited.
  • Not a long aiming range. This point was also noted in the merits, so it all depends on the circumstances in which the slingshot is used.

Having considered both lists and having considered what outweighs the advantages or disadvantages, you will have to make a choice: will you take the slingshot into service and go hunting for hares, squirrels and other small game. Or will you prefer a more lethal weapon, which will provide the opportunity to kill a larger animal.

Correct shooting technique

This concept includes two components: aiming and the hunter's stance. By mastering both correctly, you can achieve amazing results. Experienced hunters are able to hit a target that is not standing still. And it’s also not uncommon to shoot while you’re on the move.

In this light, two aiming techniques are worth considering.

Instinctive shooting

This method is based more on imagination and feelings, although it does not abolish the laws of physics. Aiming is done with both eyes, and the slingshot is controlled by sensations, because it is completely outside of direct gaze. When the hunter feels that the direction of fire has been chosen correctly, by lowering his hand with the leatherette clamped in his fingers, the trajectory and flight range of the projectile is adjusted.

The undoubted advantage of this aiming method is that the shooter does not care which eye he sees better. But the disadvantages include two facts:

  • If a hunter is poorly able to imagine the trajectory of a projectile, he is unlikely to achieve any success. This is the very imagination on which the method is based.
  • The second is the fact that after replacing a worn out harness, you will have to spend some time shooting.

Mastering this method requires long training. But having mastered it, the hunter is unlikely to leave the forest without trophies.

Aiming with an eye

Installing a landmark on a slingshot for hunting can significantly increase the efficiency and accuracy of shooting even for an inexperienced shooter. But there are some nuances here:

  • You will have to aim with one eye, the one that is sharper.
  • The reference point should be set slightly to the side, since the hand with the skin will be in close proximity to the face, and this fact can negatively affect accuracy.
  • When choosing a reference overlay, you need to ensure that it matches your individual color sensibilities.

The essence of aiming with an eye comes down to the following: three points must be lined up on one line. Eye, sight and target. The flight range is determined in the same way as in the previous method.

A well-made and individually adjusted eye can easily be used with several types of slingshots, simply by moving it from one to another, which can significantly improve hunting results.

Hunter Stance

When hunting with a slingshot, sometimes there is no time left to take the correct stance. Find support for your feet, fall on one knee, or vice versa, straighten up. All these movements in the forest, where any movement means danger for the animal, can scare away the prey, and you will have to spend some more time searching for it. Therefore, the hunter’s stance comes down to two concepts, from which the method of aiming follows.

  • In move. Experienced shooters advise not to try to keep the sight exactly on the target while moving. It is almost impossible to do this, and by and large it is not required. The sight can move along a certain trajectory, the ideal example of which would be the infinity sign - an eight falling on its side. The junction of the imaginary lines will be the aiming point. As soon as the shooter feels that the movements have converged at this point, and it, in turn, coincides with the target, a shot is fired. "Infinity" is not the only option. The trajectory of the sight should be selected individually.
  • Fixed aiming. At first glance, nothing complicated. Point the sight at the target, make sure that all three points coincide and release the skin. But there are subtleties here too. Learning to hold a tense slingshot straight throughout the entire time of sight is not easy. And one more thing: between the moment when the sight found the target and the shot, the delay should be 5, maximum 7 seconds. In the forest when hunting, this method is rarely used, since you can’t sit in an ambush with a slingshot, so this method of aiming is more suitable for sports competitions and shooting.

In general, there are nuances. However, having mastered all these skills, you can safely take the slingshot into service.

How to make a slingshot for hunting with your own hands

The hunting equipment store offers a fairly wide selection of slingshots, but remembering your childhood and making one yourself is also not difficult. To do this you will need a very small set of materials and tools:

  • Suitable piece of branch. Can be replaced with a plastic or metal part.
  • Rubber or special harness.
  • A piece of tanned leather.
  • Jigsaw.
  • Drill.
  • Scissors.
  • Sandpaper.

The algorithm of actions is still the same as in a cheerful, happy childhood.

  • A carefully selected horned branch should be cleared of bark and treated with sandpaper.
  • On each horn of the sighting part, about two centimeters below the ends, remove the annular chamfer under the elastic band.
  • The elastic is wrapped around the antlers, tied in knots, and the knots are wrapped with thread.
  • The center of the elastic is measured and cut.
  • In a piece of leather selected for the leather, holes are made along the edges.
  • The ends of the elastic are passed through these holes and tied with a knot.

The homemade slingshot is ready and no drawings are needed. The main thing is that the ends of the elastic bands are the same in length, otherwise the skin will be shifted to one side. All that remains is to select suitable shells and start shooting.

Review of several popular models

But let's go back to the store. Choosing a truly high-quality slingshot for hunting, and even a strong, accurate and durable one, is quite difficult for an inexperienced person. Therefore, here are a couple of the most popular models:

  • Model FS-1 from Truemark. Very light. The kit includes a clip for shells. Removable hand rest. Designed almost 50 years ago, it is still one of the best-selling models.
  • Survival Slingshot Archer Complete. Purely hunting model. The kit includes a flashlight. Arrows can be used.
  • The so-called fighting slingshot. Collapsible model made of anodized aluminum. There is a large scatter when shooting, since the sighting part is too wide.
  • The base is made of aircraft aluminum, which makes it lightweight. Due to thin rubber, the accuracy of hitting the target is increased.

The list is far from complete, but the listed models are enough to understand that finding a slingshot to suit your needs will not be difficult.

Safety precautions

Shooting, no matter where or what it is made of, is quite dangerous. Especially when the view is blocked by densely standing trees, low bushes, or a ray of sunlight peeking out from behind a cloud. Therefore, it is necessary to observe safety precautions when hunting.

  • The first danger is ricochet. A projectile from a slingshot flies very quickly and can change its trajectory, hitting a stone, a tree trunk, or just a thick branch.
  • When shooting a slingshot, you must wear safety glasses.
  • Carefully monitor what is on the projectile’s flight path and, especially in the immediate vicinity of the target.
  • And never aim at an animal unless you intend to shoot.

This is where we can finish the review of this familiar and at the same time such an unusual weapon for hunting. Good luck in the fishing.

When fishing with long-distance casting, many people have questions about the accuracy and efficiency of feeding at a considerable distance. Therefore, for this purpose, many people use slingshots for feeding fish, which significantly facilitate this process.

Most fishermen use homemade bait when fishing, which is made from a variety of components and in different ways. As a rule, the resulting mixture forms circles that have a very decent weight. For this reason, making a power cast is quite difficult and ineffective. When fishing at a great distance from the shore, it is almost impossible to cast bait. It is for such cases that it is recommended to use a bait slingshot, designed for easy casting to the required distance. It is recommended to use them in areas with a distance of more than 30 m.

Types of slingshots for fishing

Based on their functional characteristics, bait slingshots are divided into several types.

Slingshots used for fine or crumbly feed

This type of slingshot is used by fishermen to feed fish in the upper part of the water horizon. The design consists of a cup, a handle and an elastic band. It is better to make the shape of the cup cone-shaped and not made of hard material, which will protect the complementary foods from premature rash.

The thickness of the elastic band is responsible for the distance of casting: the thicker it is, the farther the bait will fly. For greater convenience, it is recommended to design several slingshots with different types of elastic bands.

The size and shape of the handle should be small and quite comfortable.

Slingshots for throwing larger bait balls

The use of slingshots of this type is more in demand and popular nowadays. The range of products is also quite extensive. They consist of a cup, an elastic band and a handle, as in the previous version.

Slingshots have two types of cups: mesh and cone-shaped. Mesh cups are considered more effective and efficient; the bait is not crushed and is securely held inside. Mesh baskets are an excellent option for throwing both small and large balls. Cone-shaped baskets will help in starting feeding using many small balls. When choosing an elastic band, you also need to base it on the thickness, which determines the throwing distance.

How to make a slingshot for fishing with your own hands

The modern market offers a fairly large selection of bait slingshots, but many fishermen make models with their own hands, and the resulting designs are not inferior to store-bought ones in terms of efficiency. A do-it-yourself fishing slingshot is made quite simply and does not require any special costs or skills.

The material for a slingshot can be very diverse. The basis can be thick wire or rods from old rollers. Also needed:

  • rubber;
  • insulating tape;
  • insulated single-core wire;
  • thick fabric;
  • handle (you can use an old saw or come up with your own version).

The next step is to secure the elastic band to the wire with insulating tape. At the last stage, you need to add a rectangular piece of thick fabric to the elastic, in which you need to make holes for the elastic. All components are also held together using insulating tape.

As a result, you get an excellent slingshot that is simple in design, with the help of which you can easily carry the bait to the required distance without spending a lot of effort and time.

Slingshot technique

The technology of working with a bait slingshot is also important.

To achieve the best result, it is recommended to hold the slingshot not horizontally, as many people argue, but vertically. Thanks to this, you can achieve maximum accuracy of the shot angle. The best flight range can be obtained by using an angle of 45° C, at which the bait will fly the greatest distance. When firing, the tourniquet must be stretched with maximum effort, and the bait balls must be made of the same size and weight.

Based on the above, you can make a bait slingshot yourself without much difficulty, and if you use these recommendations, fishing will only bring pleasure and an excellent catch.

Some people prefer to catch pike from a boat, casting a spinning rod towards the shore or presenting bait using the trolling method. Others prefer fishing from the shore, when it is necessary to walk several hundred meters along the coastline, when they have the opportunity to explore all the coastal pools and throw their wobbler or spoon to the most promising places from the point of view of the fisherman.

But there are areas where there is nothing to do with a lure or fishing rod - there it is simply impossible to turn around with a fishing rod or spinning rod, not to mention making a normal throw. And what’s interesting is that it is precisely in such places that the most outstanding specimens of pike live. And it’s just interesting to catch fish in conditions where any other fisherman is simply helpless. There are many programs on television about fishing, where pros carry fish.

But try to fish where you really need to find fish and think about it. And you must admit, it’s one thing to fish in a place where, apart from the leader himself, there have never really been any people, and another thing to visit a body of water that is regularly visited by fishermen. So, you can catch pike in harsh, hard-to-reach or inconvenient fishing conditions, using a wide variety of gear:

  • Mugs (often homemade, stable, optimal size)
  • Zherlitsy
  • Pike trap, etc.

We’ll talk about mugs and a pike trap later, but now a few words about the girder. Anyone can do it: just look around in the forest and cut a dozen slingshots from fallen branches (not yet rotted).

At the same time, you don’t have to worry too much if the slingshots themselves are crooked, since these slingshots will not be used for shooting, but for fishing. When the slingshots are cut, they need to be freed from the bark,

after which one or two circular grooves are cut out on the handle of the slingshot, then a rope is tied to them, which is then attached to a bush or any other object.

What is the tackle?

Most fishing methods, as well as equipment, have experienced several periods of popularity and evolution during their existence. An example is slingshot fishing; on its basis, more modern and promising methods arose.

As the name suggests, the tackle has the shape of an ordinary slingshot, on two branches of which 5 to 10 m of fishing line with a diameter of 0.5 mm is wound in the shape of eights. A leash made of fairly strong material, a tee and a sliding sinker are put on the fishing line itself. The size of the tee depends on the size of the intended catch.

Fishing with a slingshot is similar to fishing using a lure

How to properly make a slingshot for pike?

Let's look at some of the secrets of making a slingshot for pike with your own hands. You will need a blank in the form of a branch with a straight split from wood species such as willow or hazel. Experienced fishermen use these trees because they have fairly smooth wood, from which the line will easily come off when bitten. In addition, they make a straighter tackle, from which it is easy to remove the bark.

When the desired workpiece is found, it is necessary to remove the bark and dry it. It is best to dry the future slingshot not in direct sunlight or in the oven to avoid cracking, but in a well-ventilated place in the shade. The slow drying process will last a week. If the spears on the workpiece are located at too large an angle, then it can be reduced while the wood is raw. The ends of the spears must be compressed until the desired angle is formed, secured with a rope, and only then dried.

The next stage is the direct assembly of the gear. To prevent the fishing line from slipping on smooth wood, it is necessary to screw wood screws or small screws into the spears, leaving a small distance from the fork. It is not recommended to use nails in this case, as they can split the slingshot and render the workpiece unusable.

If it is important to insure the tackle against splits, then before screwing in the screw, first drill small holes of a smaller diameter, and screw self-tapping screws or self-tapping screws into these holes, then the rods will definitely not crack.

To secure the fishing line in the butt of the slingshot, cut out a groove, tie the fishing line to the fork with a strong fishing knot and wind it around the slingshot in a figure eight. When the line is completely wound, put on a sliding sinker and secure the leash with a swivel. It is best to use high-quality and small trebles, as they do not alarm or scare away the pike.

The workpiece should look like a slingshot, with the most correct, symmetrical shape possible

How to install a slingshot on a pike?

Tackle made in this way will be relevant on almost any body of water, even where using a spinning rod is very difficult. To install it, you will need a whip stick 3-4 meters long with a diameter of the lower part of about 4 cm. The same hazelnut, whose branches are quite even and elastic, will do. Even if the entire fishing line comes off the slingshot when biting, the holder will soften the sharp jerks of the fish due to its own flexibility.

A slingshot is attached to the end of the finished whip using a previously cut groove and twine no more than half a meter long. The whip is attached to the shore at an angle to it.

Secrets of catching pike with a slingshot

Catching slingshot pike most often occurs with live bait. They are caught with prepared special gear. Any small fish can serve as live bait; even a frog will do.

Before casting the tackle, you need to unwind the fishing line to a sufficient length suitable for the chosen location, and fix its end in the fork of the slingshot.

We bait the bait onto the tee and carefully throw it into the water. On the river, pike fishing in the spring can be carried out in places where snags accumulate, or at the end of shallow waters on a spit. On the lake you can throw a slingshot into the reeds and windows of underwater vegetation. Even if the angler uses a boat, in this case the slingshot is attached to trees or bushes growing near the water.

Bait is the key to effective fishing

Bait is an important fishing attribute that should be taken care of in advance. Especially if you plan to hunt fish with specific tastes. The modern fishing products industry offers a wide selection of these products. There are baits:

  • universal;
  • for certain types of fish (carp, roach, bream, etc.);
  • containing special pheromones;
  • including specific odors.

All this diversity is developed by scientific chemists, ichthyologists, and researchers in order to ensure maximum bite. So, what does feeding fish provide:

  • attracting individuals to bait;
  • contributes to an exacerbation of hunger in aquatic inhabitants;
  • relaxes the attention, caution of the fish.

Many fishermen prepare bait with their own hands; everyone has their own recipes. This process is simple, and the necessary products are most often available in any home. At the same time, finances are saved significantly, and there is also the opportunity to generously feed the fish.

Feeding fish using slingshots

At close distances, you can successfully throw bait with your hands. Of course, we are talking about a distance of up to 20 meters. But when the question is about long-distance casting, it is difficult to do without a bait slingshot. Or rather, it is possible without it, but achieving the goal will be very approximate, which will significantly reduce the likelihood and frequency of biting. True, you will have to set aside a little time to acquire a certain skill. Correct use of a slingshot provides the following advantages when introducing complementary foods:

  • range;
  • accuracy;
  • speed.

This tool is also indispensable if you are caught by wind on a pond, especially a headwind and gusty one. It creates certain difficulties, even if a fishing slingshot is used, but it greatly simplifies the process.

In strong winds, you should wait for the moment between gusts and cast during this period of time.

Origins of the slingshot

The meaning of the word “slingshot” itself, according to some unreliable sources, comes from the word “horns”. Indeed, they do have certain similarities. It is often compared to a catapult, only in this case it is a miniature device. Like many inventions that have survived to this day, the slingshot was created by Leonardo da Vinci. The original device was a slingshot without rubber, and instead there were special rollers on the axles. Inside there were springs with pulleys. A cord is attached to them, when stretched the springs stretch and create conditions for an accurate and long-range shot. Over time, this mechanism was replaced by a simpler one replaced by rubber.

What does a slingshot consist of?

In appearance, the slingshot does not have a complex mechanism, however, it is divided into several important units:

  • The body of the slingshot, consisting of wood or less often metal;
  • A throwing tourniquet that accumulates energy;
  • Boot, heel or saddle. Serves to hold the projectile. It may be absent if the projectile protrudes in the form of metal brackets.

A slingshot, similar to the standard model, is mainly made of wood (walnut, cherry, elderberry). For the ideal Y-shape, young branches are taken as a basis, the young “horns” are tied together and left in this form for approximately two months. After which the shape of a regular slingshot is formed.

A serious approach to the manufacture of a slingshot determines the accuracy in the symmetrical placement of the horns relative to the handle of the base.

After two months, the slingshot is cut down. In order for the device to acquire a strong appearance, it should be cleared of the top layer of bark and dried, wrapped in material, for about two weeks. The slingshot is then fired over an open flame. From this point on, the ideal thickness and surface are achieved using sandpaper.

Correct selection of material

  • Slingshot body. Having become a favorite among young men, slingshots today are made of metal, plastic, wire, wood, and cardboard. Naturally, the most durable material from the above is metal, and then wood. It’s just that a slingshot made of wood is more common due to the fact that the complexity of working with metal cannot always be used at home. Plastic is no less durable, even mechanical stress is not harmful to it. Cardboard is only suitable for playing with children, but do not underestimate its power for throwing bullets.
  • Choosing a rubber band. According to numerous reviews, the most suitable option is rubber cable sheaths. The simplest option is a medical tourniquet, but only because it can be bought at a pharmacy. Many people recommend a Martens bandage, a GP 5 gas mask. A latex surgical drainage tube is considered very durable and malleable, but it is very difficult to get. Simpler options are used by those who need a slingshot only for playing, for example, rubber from a ball or a bicycle tire is used by young men. It is affordable, and its throwing properties absolutely meet their needs.
  • Kozhetok. Almost always it always has a rectangular shape. The material from which it will be made must be durable and provide reliable wear resistance. Usually it is leather, less often suede, dermantin.

Which projectile to choose

The good thing about a finished slingshot is that you can pick up shells for it even on the street; these can be ordinary stones. The size and shape are chosen by the owner himself for personal reasons. If you want to increase destructive power, speed, and impact when thrown, then opt for special metal bullets purchased in stores. These can be steel balls, lead shot, chopped lead, or drawing lots.

A simple option to make a slingshot with your own hands

  • A strong slingshot will be no worse than one bought in a store, if you approach your homemade product responsibly. Find a branch that looks like the letter Y. It is advisable to use sizes that are between 15 and 20 cm long.
  1. To ensure the branch is strong and secure, make sure there are no cracks or chips before breaking it from the tree. It’s okay if there are small scratches on the branch; they can be easily cut off with a knife;
  2. The bark will become redundant, so it is often removed. This is done for aesthetic reasons.
  • The best option would be a fresh branch. But the moisture it contains is excessive, otherwise the structure will lose reliability. How to dry it. The easiest way is to wrap it in material and dry it in the microwave. Use the correct step-by-step instructions:
  1. Wrap the future slingshot in a small towel. Place in the microwave and leave on the highest setting for a few seconds.
  2. The stick will create a hissing sound, when it stops, put it down again for a few seconds and do this several times.

The photo below shows what can happen if the stick is left for a long time without a towel. It may turn black or even catch fire. So be careful, watch what you do.

  • Let's move on to creating notches. For this you will need a construction knife. Make cuts on the top of each branch, as shown in the photo.

  • Let's move on to the choice of tires. In this example, a medical tube will be used; you, in turn, can use another rubber band, for example, a tourniquet, rubber from an old ball or a bicycle inner tube. The diameter is 80 mm, and as for the length, you decide what it should be. The traction force depends on this. The shorter the band, the stronger the throwing. Don’t forget that it still needs to be stretched, so you shouldn’t make it too short either. Once the length is chosen, cut the two tubes in half and tie the end of each to its own notch.
  • Tie a piece of dental floss around the tube. The thread will tighten the tube and make it strong.
  • Let's move on to creating the skin. It is not difficult to cut from any durable fabric, preferably leather. A 10x5 rectangle should have a small hole on each side (0.8 - 1.20 cm). Later we will thread the traction tube through these holes.

  • Now everything is simple. Pass each end of the rubber tube through the holes. Make a knot on each one. Manipulation with dental floss can also be used in this case, the structure will become much stronger.
  • The slingshot is ready. Practice using your new slingshot to shoot down any inanimate object, train your eyesight and accuracy.

This example is more suitable for the amateur method of throwing stones or other small equipment.

An original slingshot for homemade work with children

It's no secret that most children who like slingshots are boys. Therefore, you can use this master class as a development activity for your son or grandson. To start the process you will need the following tools:

  • Toilet paper tube. You'll have to prepare in advance; you won't unwind a whole skein;
  • Insulating tape;
  • Pencil;
  • Rubber;
  • Scissors.
  1. Take a cylindrical shape of toilet paper and cut it vertically, this will make it easier to roll. Roll it into a stick and wrap it with electrical tape.
  2. At the end of the cardboard stick, make a hole the diameter of a pencil. Insert it, turning it round and round.
  3. Let's move on to the skin. To make it you will need durable cardboard. Using scissors, cut out a rectangular shape and use a hole punch to make holes for the elastic along the edges.
  4. You determine the length of the elastic yourself; if you don’t stretch it on one side only, it is approximately equal to the length of a pencil. Insert it into the holes of the leatherette, tying each end into a knot. And twist the other end onto the end of a pencil and tie tightly. This way you will get a slingshot that you can play with at home, and you can come up with anything you want in the form of bullets. For example, soaked paper from which you form bullets with your fingers.

Slingshots made of cardboard will be stronger when the handle, which bears the main force, is strong. Therefore, it is better to additionally wrap it with adhesive tape.

Rules for using a slingshot: caution

Some types of slingshots are considered melee weapons, but even if the slingshot you buy is legal to use everywhere, this does not open up the boundaries for you to shoot animals and people. Do not hold the slingshot at eye level and do not aim at the eyes of the person standing next to you; even a small bullet can lead to dire consequences.

How to make a hunting slingshot with your own hands

What makes a slingshot ideal is the correct design, and it doesn’t matter what material it consists of. The elastic band, in turn, ensures fast and accurate flight. To find the required forked branch you will have to work hard, but you can use a jigsaw. In order to make a slingshot for hunting we will need:

  • Jigsaw and wood or ready-made slingshot branch;
  • Sandpaper for sanding;
  • Rubber;
  • Construction knife;
  • Drill;
  • A small piece of leather.

When the slingshot-shaped branch is in your hands, we begin sanding away the tree bark. If you decide to use a jigsaw, know that the handle should not be flat, and the horns must be made the same in distance between each other and in length.

We cut out a flat flexible plate from leather. We make holes on the sides for the elastic and thread it through, tying it at the ends.

To attach the elastic band to the slingshot, you can use a drill and make corresponding holes at the ends of the horns, or you can make cuts with a knife. Both methods are welcome. The main thing is that the knot is strong.

The horns should be at the same angle from the handle. And the handle, in turn, should not be too thin, since you will have to shoot from it often, the design should be durable.

You can expand your imagination and create a completely different type of slingshot using a plastic bottle. You will need:

  • Plastic bottle;
  • Construction knife;
  • Rubber band for money;
  • Finger cap.

Cut off the top of the plastic bottle. We don't need a lid. We put the fingertip on the neck and tighten it with an elastic band. That's it, the slingshot is ready, all that remains is to put the projectile inside and take aim.

The best stretch for a slingshot is 80% of the resting length. A good option for a throwing harness is latex.

Pocket Weapon: Where to Use a Slingshot

The first thing that comes to mind for a person who is not interested in this type of weapon is the boys playing in the yard. But the slingshot has a much broader horizon and its properties very often become useful at home. Let's figure out where you can use a pocket weapon.

  1. Anyone who has a vegetable garden or garden knows that very often it is attacked by petty thieves such as crows and other types of birds. You can save yourself with a scarecrow, but if it doesn’t help, you can drive away the ill-wishers with a slingshot. Just be extremely careful so that if you miss, there is no other person far away from you.
  2. “The pear is hanging - you can’t eat it” - this is how the well-known riddle begins, but today is not about it. The slingshot can be used to aim to hit the fruits that are located at the very top of the fruit tree.
  3. The tourist needs to give the slingshot its due. A foreign country is full of unexpected surprises, unless, of course, you are aware in advance of some of its dangerous zones. In this case, a slingshot can be useful in scaring away wild animals and protecting yourself from dogs. If you decide to stay overnight in the forest for a few more days, then this is the perfect time to try your weapon on small animals. Such hunting does not require licenses or special permits.
  4. Anglers often use a slingshot to throw food into the distance of a reservoir.
  5. With the help of a slingshot they develop accuracy. Using it for such purposes, in a very short period of time, you will shoot down targets from a very long distance.

As you can see, a slingshot is a very useful throwing device that is accessible to every person. You can put it in your pocket and carry it with you as a protective device.

How to make a slingshot for fishing

Perhaps it will be a discovery for many that slingshots are used to feed fish at a distance of 30-40 meters from the shore, but not for the fishermen themselves. This simple device is popular nowadays. A characteristic feature of slingshots used in the fishing industry is rubber. The force of flight depends on its rigidity. The softer the rubber, the closer and vice versa. In fishing stores you can find two types of slingshots: for crumbly mixtures of complementary foods and complementary foods in lumps. Consider the master class of a slingshot, which in fact will turn out to be no worse than the factory version.

We will need:

  • Pezzer catheter;
  • Strong thread;
  • Branch resembling the letter Y;
  • Scissors, knife;
  • A small piece of leather.
  1. We clean the finished branch from the bark. You can do this with a knife or take sandpaper.
  2. We get rid of existing moisture using a microwave, after wrapping it with cloth or drying it for about a month, if there is time for this.
  3. We cut small transverse grooves in the upper axis of the branch.
  4. We tie each end of the catheter with a thick thread to two holes.
  5. From the leather we cut out the required leather jacket shape.
  6. Make holes on the sides and attach the ends of the catheter to them. We fasten tightly with thread.

To ensure maximum flight power, it is recommended to hold the slingshot vertically. Make the balls the same, of the same weight, so that you know the approximate footage from the shore. The elastic band should be pulled as tight as possible.

They say that even a stick shoots once a year, so take the slingshot seriously. Use it for its intended purpose, namely: to hit objects to develop accuracy, for game, for feeding and for helping with housework.
