Installing the dishwasher: installation and connection instructions. Connecting a dishwasher to the water supply and sewerage system on your own - a step-by-step description of how it works Siphon for connecting a dishwasher

In order for the dishwasher to function flawlessly in the long term, it must be properly connected. Dishwashers are available in a built-in version (for example, in a kitchen unit) or in a separate version.

Rice. 1. Appearance of the Bosch SRV55T13EU dishwasher

Using the example of a Bosch dishwasher model SRV55T13EU (Fig. 1), we will consider a simple connection method that can be used universally - in the city and the countryside, taking into account some of the features of a particular connection discussed in the article.

You can connect the machines yourself, following the recommended path; performing work operations in the following sequence:

  • control of appearance upon receipt (delivery);
  • installing the dishwasher in a selected location (not far from the water supply and drainage points);
  • connecting to the sewerage system (drainage) using a drain hose;
  • connection to the hydraulic circuit of a centralized water supply (in the village to the water supply circuit);
  • connection from a 220 V lighting network (with a ground loop) and a separate automatic fuse 10-13 A. The automatic fuse-switch (see Fig. 2) must operate when a leakage current appears and have a corresponding designation on the body.

Since the power of the dishwasher consumed from the network during operation is high - up to 2.3 kW, the electrical connection is made to a specially grounded outlet (see Fig. 3 and 4).

Rice. 3. Correct (left) and incorrect (right) connection of the dishwasher to the 220 V lighting network

Rice. 4. Practical connection to an outlet

Rice. 5. If your apartment does not have such sockets, the grounding wire (according to electrical safety rules, it must be yellow-green in color and with a cross-section of at least 2.5 mm²) is installed independently. An option for wiring in a house under construction is presented.

Rice. 6. Additional wiring of ground wire

Bosch SRV55T13EU has an automatic solenoid valve, which is programmatically controlled by the central processor of the machine, passing water from the water supply into the working chamber and to the heating element (heating element).

Rice. 7. Aqua-Stop Bitron solenoid valve

Rice. 8. Illustration of connecting the incoming water hose to the solenoid valve

The counter part to it must have an external thread with a diameter of 26.4 mm (see Fig. 8).

This valve has its own characteristics: inside the supply hose (2.5 m behind the dishwasher) there are connecting wires.

As a rule, an underwater hose with a solenoid valve is connected to a cold water supply. However, it is useful to know that this solenoid valve is designed for a water temperature of +25...+70º C, and at an input temperature of +60º C, the operating time of the washing machine will be less (per wash) - due to the fact that there are no costs time for heating water with a heating element in the working chamber, and at a temperature less than +60º C - more (see Table 1 at the end of the article).

The internal heater (heater) of the dishwasher ensures the water temperature in the working chamber up to +65º C (depending on the set program).

The dishwasher can also operate in semi-automatic mode if it is not equipped with an Aqua-Stop solenoid valve, if the pressure in the hydraulic circuit is low (less than 0.5 bar), if water enters the machine by gravity (country version). In the last case considered, the water supply is controlled manually by opening/closing the water tap.

If the water pressure is insufficient or does not flow at all, the “Check water supply” segment lights up on the indicator. This may be in the following cases:

  • the water tap is closed;
  • they turned off the water to the apartment;
  • the flexible inlet hose of the hydraulic circuit is severely bent;
  • the filter in the solenoid valve is clogged (Fig. 9).

Rice. 9. View of the built-in filter in the solenoid valve

To localize the malfunction, you will need to turn off the power supply to the dishwasher, stop the water supply, unscrew the solenoid valve at the junction with the water supply hose from the apartment (house) hydraulic circuit, remove the filter from the Aqua-Stop solenoid valve and clean it. Then put everything back in the reverse order, connect the water and power to the dishwasher.

Attention, important!

Never cut this hose or immerse the plastic solenoid valve housing in water.

To avoid an electrical accident and leaks, lay the inlet and drain lines so that the hoses do not bend and are not adjacent to the heating elements. It is best to mask these technical communications with hard plastic “false panels” to prevent even the unlikely impact of children or pets.

If the dishwasher is installed in a country house and operates in conditions of temperature changes, make sure that after use there is no water left inside the working chamber and in the hoses (both inlet and drain) (so that it does not freeze in winter).

To drain the remaining water, close the water tap (turn off the inlet circuit), disconnect the supply hose and let the water drain. This way you will protect yourself and your dishwasher for a long time.

Some technical specifications and installation requirements

  • supply voltage of the solenoid valve 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz;
  • power consumption 2.3 kW;
  • minimum water pressure in the inlet circuit 0.5 bar (0.05 MPa);
  • maximum water pressure 10 bar (1 MPa);
  • in case of increased hydraulic pressure, an additional pressure reducing valve is installed in front of the tap or solenoid valve;
  • The minimum volume of supplied water is 10 l/min.

We will sequentially consider connecting the underwater (input) and outlet (drain) hoses to the dishwasher.

Dishwasher installation

Connecting the underwater (incoming) hose to the sewer lines

On the water pipe side, the connection is threaded, using an adapter hose; it is shown in Fig. 10.

Rice. 10. Threaded connection of the inlet hydraulic circuit using an adapter hose

In Fig. 11 illustrates the types of connections and dimensions of some connecting elements for underwater and drain hoses.

Using the supplied parts, connect and secure the supply hose to the water tap; Make sure that the fresh water supply hose is not kinked or pinched.

Connecting the drain hose to the sewer lines

The drain valve (adapter connected with a compression clamp) has an outer diameter of 22 mm (see Fig. 11); Dimensions are similar to the output of all types of dishwashers and automatic washing machines manufactured after 2000.

To connect the water outlet from the dishwasher, install a standard siphon with a drain pipe and outlet under the sink (see Fig. 12 and 13).

Rice. 12. Siphon with drain pipe and outlet to the dishwasher

Rice. 13. Technological illustration of connecting a siphon with an outlet indicating dimensions

Rice. 14. Illustration of the correct outlet and connection of the dishwasher drain

Attention, important!

To find out the duration (in time - in minutes) of the selected program, press the dishwasher on/off button once.

Turn it off in the same way after “0” appears on the display. There is one more important nuance of program management.

If, during program management, you simultaneously press both buttons labeled Reset and hold for 3 seconds, the washing program stops, the “0” symbol will appear on the information display, and another minute after pausing the program, you can completely turn off the dishwasher.

This method is suitable for emergency stop of the program, adding dishes, in case of power failures and the need to change program parameters.

The table knows everything

There is a certain consumption of detergent and electricity, established experimentally and recommended by the manufacturer, depending on the installed (programmed) dishwashing program. This information is included in the table. 1.

Table 1. Relationship between program type, water and electricity consumption

Despite the apparent complexity of the description, all these sequential steps can be performed by any zealous owner - in order to bring pleasure from operating the dishwasher to his loved ones.

Installation of "Moidodyr" in the kitchen or how to connect a dishwasher to sewerage, water supply and electricity

Waiting for the promised 3 years

March 8 is behind us, and the time has come to install the kitchen device called the “kitchen dishwasher” that was finally purchased and given to my wife. Someone may notice that there is no particular need for such a miracle technique, they say, with the money saved you can easily buy something more worthwhile for your home.

Alas, dear reader, this is not the best way to save money, even if your home still needs a lot of things. In my case, my wife waited and did not complain for almost 3 years, and during this time we changed our place of residence, settled in a partially renovated house, and invested all our available funds in its improvement.

A few more words about the purchase - I chose the Candy brand. I won’t write about the model itself, as they say, “it depends on the taste and color of the price and brand...”, but I’ll just share my observations:

  1. I was surprised by the instructions because they do not contradict the realities of life. Example? Please:
    • There are no restrictions like “don’t cover” or “don’t put anything on top”;
    • For cleaning, they do not impose special products of a specific brand, which you must buy. It is written simply - put a deep plate, pour vinegar into it, close the lid and start the cleaning program.
  2. There is a choice of detergents - powder, gels or tablets. As for me, powder and liquid are preferable, because... they can be dosed depending on the degree of contamination. This means real cost savings, which is important.

What to do in the kitchen

So, the car was purchased, the location for its location was agreed upon in advance at the family council. They wisely refused to install it in a cabinet under the sink, since it is illogical to close the inlets and shut-off valves with bulky equipment.

Almost all models are standardized in size to match the parameters of kitchen furniture.

But, before connecting the washing machine to the sewerage system, water supply and electricity, it was necessary:

  1. Route the electrical cable to the installation site, equip it with a special waterproof socket;
  2. Install a special through-tee on the cold water supply with tap;
  3. Install a tee on the sewer outlet pipe to connect the drain hose.

Connection

Electric outlet

Electricity is no joke, this is a well-known fact. Especially when there is water in close proximity. Therefore, I decided to run a separate three-wire cable to the electrical panel.

Captain Obviousness suggests: this rule should be followed when installing with your own hands not only a dishwasher, but also a washing machine and a dryer.

The power of my, or rather our “family” dishwasher was 2.4 kW (the instructions and the sticker on the back of the unit will help you find out the technical parameters). It is quite logical that I chose the option of hidden installation of a three-core copper cable of the VVGng brand with a cross-section of 3x1.5.

I laid the wire in a plastic plinth and brought it out to the electrical panel in the vestibule, where I connected it through a machine with a rated current of 10A. On the wall directly next to the installation site of the dishwasher I installed a waterproof socket with IP55 grounding.

Actually, at this point the electrical connection stage can be considered successfully completed.

Sewerage

It's time to take care of the reliable drainage of the dishwasher. In principle, the procedure is similar to installing a washing machine. I have already talked in detail about how to connect a washing machine to the sewer; the difficulty when connecting a new unit lies only in the need to install an additional element, namely a pipe onto which the drain hose is placed.

For any device connected to the sewer system, a water seal is required to prevent foul odors from penetrating into the room.
A priori, connected household devices do not have such elements and are not provided for them, which means that the owner should take care of this.

So, how to connect a dishwasher to the sewer correctly? After all, it is impossible to build its own water seal system for each kitchen plumbing device. And you don’t need to do this at all - remember how your washing machine is connected.

To do this, I had to go to a hardware store, where I purchased a siphon splitter with a diameter of 40 mm (pictured above), designed to connect two drain hoses at the same time:

  1. From the washing machine;
  2. From the dishwasher.

The work on connecting to the sewer took a minimum of time:

  • Placed an empty container under the siphon;
  • First I unscrewed the drain hose from the washing machine;
  • Then he unscrewed the sealing nut of the siphon cup;
  • I unscrewed the nut to remove the old splitter;
  • In its place I installed a new one with two outlets;
  • Put everything back together;
  • I crimped the hoses with special metal clamps so that they would not slip during operation.

Under no circumstances should you use silicone sealant to coat the rubber seals of the siphon with it before assembly.
All connections must be removable.

Water supply

The time has come to talk about connecting to the water supply, although in terms of importance this should be addressed first, before installing the outlet. Why?

Yes, because, my dear reader, splashes and leaks of water when connecting to the water supply are quite likely, so it is better to take care of installing tees and shut-off valves in advance.

As a matter of fact, the algorithm of my work boiled down to the following:

  1. Shut off the valves at the inlet of hot and cold water supply;
  2. I opened the kitchen faucet to relieve pressure and drain the remaining water from the tap;
  3. Using two keys, I loosened the connection on the supply line;
  4. Dismantled the old tee;
  5. Cleaned the threads of the ball valves from the old sealing tape;
  6. I wound a new one with 5-6 turns;
  7. Installed a new tee;
  8. I screwed the water supply hose to the mixer to one of the terminals;
  9. To the other - the washing machine hose;
  10. To the third - the water supply hose to the dishwasher;
  11. Checked and tightened all threaded connections;
  12. Turned on the water supply (opened the ball valves on the connections);
  13. I made sure there were no leaks.

First start

We have come to the final part - all that remains is to do the first washing of the dishes, which, as you understand, is more important for the wife. And for me the most important thing is that the connection is correct, but I can’t check all these parameters at once. Why?

Because the electrical part and water supply will work within a minute after switching on, but as for draining wastewater - only after the end of the first washing cycle.

Then let's go!

  • According to the instructions, first I took out the detergent container - it is located on the door. I poured a small amount of liquid into it and installed it back;
  • At the bottom of the chamber, I unscrewed the lid of the container and poured regenerating salt into it. Its quantity is different for each model, so you need to read the manufacturer’s recommendations;
  • He pulled out the tray and placed several dirty plates and cups in it;
  • Without closing the door, I turned on the dishwasher - the indicators on the panel lit up. This model has an indication lamp for selecting the softness level; it must also be selected before starting the machine;
  • I selected the program and closed the door.

When the washer is started, the solenoid valve relay is activated, opening the cold water supply. This stage also went well. And when the primary wash ended, the dishwasher drained soapy water - which is also accompanied by a characteristic sound.

As a visual inspection showed, all connections are tight - there are no leaks.

Service

Alas, the dishwasher needs regular cleaning. Or rather, its individual elements - fat and food debris are captured by the filter block, and also settle on the nozzles and blades of the washing injectors, reducing their efficiency.

To clean the filter unit you need:

  1. Remove the plug from the socket;
  2. Open the machine lid;
  3. Remove the filter element from the sump;

In my model, you need to lift the plastic handle and turn the filter 90 degrees counterclockwise.

  1. Rinse it in the kitchen sink under running hot water;
  2. Put it back.

For preventive cleaning of wash injectors, you will need the open-end wrench included in the kit. I read them like this:

  1. I unscrew the retaining nut with the machine turned off and de-energized;
  2. I carefully remove the impeller from the rod;
  3. I wash it in warm soapy water. I use an old toothbrush to clean;
  4. I'm putting everything back together;
  5. I tighten the nut.

Finally

I hope that the information offered to readers will help in connecting a dishwasher on their own. You can visually familiarize yourself with the connection procedure by watching the video in this article. Feel free to share your own experience or ask questions in the comments. Good luck!

It takes a couple of hours to connect the dishwasher if you have everything you need. If you don’t know how to connect a dishwasher with your own hands, then detailed instructions, a list of materials and tools are in front of you.

Dishwasher Connection Tools

You will need:

  1. Sewer siphon for drain connection.
  2. A shut-off ball valve that will shut off the water in front of the dishwasher.
  3. Brass tee fitting with ¾ inch thread for water connection.
  4. Filter for rough purification of supplied water.
  5. PVC pipe or high-pressure hose for drainage (if a siphon is not included).
  6. Pliers, screwdriver, electrical tape, FUM waterproofing tape.

It is recommended to install a tee not made of steel or cast iron (they rust quickly), but of bronze or brass; the ball valve is made of metal-plastic or made of the same brass or bronze. This way you will ensure long-term maintenance-free operation of the components.

Dirty water is discharged into the sewer through a siphon, so it is better that it be universal - with several fittings so that it can be connected to the drain holes of other household appliances.

The siphon also traps unpleasant odors from the sewer, so don't skimp on it - it doesn't matter how much the kit costs, it's important that it lasts a long time. Be sure to check the siphon package so as not to have to go back and forth for the missing gasket. The filter for water purification is the same as in the water meter system.

Procedure for connecting the dishwasher

Dishwashing machines are desktop, built-in (compact) and stationary. Despite the difference in dimensions, the connection of all communications is carried out according to the general principle with minor differences.

How to connect a dishwasher of any type - stationary, compact or built-in:

  1. Decide on the location where the dishwasher will be installed. Most often this is the work area next to the kitchen sink.
  2. Choose where you will connect the unit to the electrical network. It is safer if a separate outlet with grounding is installed, but this mainly applies to powerful devices.
  3. When installing a separate socket, choose a wire with a cross-section of 2.5 mm 2 and protection in the form of a 16 A circuit breaker. The optimal reliable option is to add a 30 mA RCD (residual current device).
  4. Select a location to connect to cold water. But you may have a model with a hot water connection, so you will need to connect the dishwasher to hot water.
  5. The water is connected with a special high-pressure hose with a ¾-inch union nut. Therefore, a shut-off valve with a ¾-inch thread must be screwed into the tee.
  6. The dishwasher drain is connected to the internal sewer system, and it is better to organize the connection separately through a siphon tee (for example, on a kitchen sink drain).

Now about how to connect the dishwasher drain. Draining is the easiest thing to do. To do this, each kitchen siphon has a plug at the bottom that needs to be unscrewed, and the siphon must be screwed onto this thread, and a hose for draining dirty water from the dishwasher will be connected to it.

The standard drain hose is 1.5 meters long, and this should be enough. The siphon has a built-in valve to delay backflow and odors from the sewer, but another protective measure can be taken - secure the drain hose so that a small half-ring is formed below the siphon. This will be a kind of water valve.

Electrical connection

Not everyone knows how to properly connect a dishwasher to the network. The best option is a separate socket, separate cable, grounding and separate protection in the form of an RCD and a circuit breaker. But this is the rule for powerful units and work for professionals. We want to connect the device ourselves.

So, we connect the dishwasher ourselves. For a kitchen in which a compact machine, for example a Bosch, will be installed, the option of connecting to the nearest outlet is suitable. Moreover, the entire electrical network of the apartment is protected by not one, but two automatic circuit breakers on the landing - one before the meter, and one after it.

For a low-power sink, you can buy a grounded socket plug and make an extension cord yourself. This connection with grounding protects from the load on the home network, and the fact that all wiring wires are concreted into the walls protects them from overheating.

How to add water

About how to connect a bosch dishwasher or another model to water. The cold water supply requires tapping into the water supply system, and this does not necessarily require welding. Simply install a tee where the water is connected to the cold tap in the kitchen, from which the hose is led to the dishwasher.

Threaded connections must be sealed with FUM tape (8-12 turns must be made). For a tight connection, only hand effort is required, without keys. Instead of FUM tape, you can use linen winding, tow or sealant.

Immediately screw the ball valve (valve) onto the tee and connect the cold water hose to it. If your dishwasher model can be connected to DHW, then the essence of the process does not change - the tee cuts into the DHW supply pipe.

Features of connecting a portable machine

A tabletop dishwasher is installed on the countertop; the drainage is usually organized in the simplest way - dirty water is drained directly into the sink. Water is supplied to the compact dishwasher in the same way as in stationary models, and power is supplied from a regular kitchen electrical outlet.

Standard dimensions of the built-in model: width 450-600 mm, unit depth – 550 mm, height – 820 mm. The built-in model is installed in two versions:

  1. In a specially designated place in the kitchen unit (like a washing machine or mini-refrigerator) under the countertop, taking into account the size of the future unit.
  2. As a separate cabinet, decorated to resemble kitchen furniture. For this purpose, special fronts for dishwashers are sold, from which you can choose a suitable decor.

The built-in dishwasher must be connected to water, sewerage and voltage in the same way as in the stationary version. And what model your dishwasher will be: built-in, portable or stationary - depends only on the size of the kitchen space and your desire.

Features of connecting a stationary machine

You can find out how to connect the dishwasher yourself from the instructions that came with the device. All technological processes described in the instructions are accompanied by pictures and marked to ensure compliance with the sequence of operations. Often not everything is clear from the pictures, so use our advice.

The instructions may not contain specifics of the process, how to connect the dishwasher to the sewer, drain and voltage specifically for your conditions, so you need to proceed from the actual dimensions of the unit and the location of communications. You may have to lengthen the drain hose or buy a different siphon.

Checking the operation of the dishwasher

Before starting for the first time, check:

  1. Correct connection to the electrical network. To do this, simply turn on the machine for a few seconds.
  2. Water supply to the unit and drainage. Check all hoses for kinks and all threaded connections for leaks.
  3. Check the degree of inclination of the drain hose - water ideally should not stagnate in the hose, unless you yourself have organized a special additional water plug to protect against unpleasant odors from the sewer.

Now, if everything is fine, seal all service holes in the walls, if any (may be necessary when laying a cable, drain hose or water supply) and put the kitchen in order.

How to install a dishwasher yourself (video)

Tips from the user on how to connect a dishwasher (video) - watch and remember. All connections when connecting the drain and water require only manual effort - no special keys are needed for this. A minimum of tools and physical effort - and your dishwasher will start working.

Even a housewife can handle connecting a dishwasher, and there is no need to call a specialist. Just follow the sequence of operations, ensure that you have all the materials and tools, and you will succeed.

In contact with

The dishwasher and washing machine can be connected simultaneously in the same room, and without particularly changing the communications. This is required in cases where it is not possible to place the washing machine in the bathroom, so it is moved to the kitchen and placed next to the dishwasher. In this publication we will talk about how such a connection is made and what features there are.

What will you need?

In order to simultaneously connect two devices that are so dependent on communications, it is necessary to prepare these communications. It would be very simple if the kitchen already had separate water supply and sewer outlets specifically for the dishwasher and washing machine, but since they don’t exist, you’ll have to come up with something.

First of all, we will collect the necessary materials that will help us “integrate” into existing communications. Let's list them:

A voltage stabilizer will help us avoid radical alterations in electrical communications; at the same time, it will provide good protection for expensive household appliances from failures in the electrical network.

We will also need tools; without them we won’t be able to connect the washing machine and dishwasher, but their list will be much more modest. You literally only need a small adjustable wrench, pliers, a spirit level, and a screwdriver.

Preparation for installation of two devices

Let's imagine this situation. A dishwasher is already installed in the kitchen, but there was a need to connect a washing machine at the same time. First, you need to at least find a place for it, because a washing machine is far from a small household appliance.

In such a matter, it’s difficult for us to give any advice; after all, this is your kitchen. It is possible that installing and connecting the washing machine will require some kind of compromise, for example, you will have to give up some pieces of furniture or make a rearrangement. One way or another, try to place the washing machine and dishwasher closer to the sink, because it is under it that the connection to the water supply and sewerage will be located. You also need to strengthen and level the floor where the washing machine is installed; to do this, use a building level.

Do not forget that there must be a gap of at least 1.5 cm between the washing machine and surrounding objects, since the machine vibrates strongly and sways from side to side during the spin cycle.

You can install a washing machine and dishwasher to the right and left of the sink, in which case it will be much easier to organize the drainage from the water supply and sewerage. You can place the dishwasher directly next to the sink, and place the washing machine next to the dishwasher, leaving a 1.5 cm gap between the walls of the appliances. There may be many options, but you will still choose the one that is most suitable in your case, so we will not impose your opinion.

Connect to the water supply

There are two ways to organize a water supply drain to simultaneously connect both a washing machine and a dishwasher. The first method involves connecting to the outlet of a cold water pipe on the sink, and the second to a special outlet of a pipe with cold water. Both methods are common, so let’s look at them in more detail.

If the renovation of the kitchen was carried out a long time ago, and no one imagined that someday a washing machine or dishwasher would be installed in this room, then there are no free water pipe outlets. But it doesn't matter. We will make a branch from the cold water pipe that goes to the sink. Let's perform the following manipulations.

  1. A hose extends from the metal-plastic pipe with cold water, which in turn is connected to the mixer. We need to first shut off the water and disconnect the hose from the pipe.
  2. Between the hose and the pipe we will install a bronze tap with four outlets through an adapter. Two outputs will be used to connect the pipe and hose going to the mixer, and the other two outputs will be used to connect the washing machine and dishwasher to the water supply.
  3. Next, we will install two flow-through taps at the two outlets of the tap and insulate the connection well.

We install flow taps in order to shut off the outlets to the washing machine and dishwasher separately, but if necessary, it will be possible to turn off the water in both the washing machine and the dishwasher at the same time.

The second option for connecting to the water supply is very similar to the first, only in this case we will use a tee tap. We screw a tap-tee onto the finished pipe outlet with cold water through an adapter. Thus, instead of one tap, we get two. Next, we screw the pass-through taps onto the outlets in exactly the same way and connect the inlet hoses of the washing machine and dishwasher.

Connection to sewerage and electrical network

Now we need to solve the problem associated with connecting two household appliances to the sewer. Extending the drain hoses is not so bad. You can buy adapters, additional hoses of a suitable cross-section and the job is done, but how to connect these long hoses to the drain? This question has long been answered by manufacturers of plumbing fixtures, in particular siphons for sinks. There are siphons on sale with two outlets for drain hoses, in other words siphons with two fittings.

So, we simply buy a new siphon with two outlets for the kitchen sink, install it in place of the old siphon and connect two drain hoses from the washing machine and dishwasher to it, respectively. The connection points between the siphon and hoses must be secured with clamps.

Do not forget to comply with the requirements for the height of the connection of drain hoses so that a siphon effect does not occur and water from the sewer does not flow back into the washing machine and dishwasher.

Connecting to the electrical network is more difficult to organize, especially if the kitchen has only one suitable outlet with a moisture-resistant housing, the wiring of which is designed for only one large consumer. It is dangerous to connect two large consumers directly to such an outlet, but you can use a trick - connect through. You can read more about these devices in the corresponding publication posted on our website.

Checking the work

We connected both the washing machine and the dishwasher at the same time. Since organizing the connection turned out to be more difficult than in a normal situation, everything needs to be checked carefully. We load the laundry into the washing machine (you can run it idle in a special mode), put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher and start these two appliances at the same time. While the washing and washing programs are being executed, our task is to carefully monitor the communications. Particular attention to the connections between taps and hoses.

If a leak is suddenly discovered, it is urgent to turn off the water and stop the operation of both appliances, so as not to flood the entire floor in the kitchen and flood the neighbors. Then you need to unwind the problematic connection, reel it in more carefully, and then twist it again.

To summarize, we note that in order to organize the connection of both a washing machine and a dishwasher at once, you do not need to call specialists and pay them a lot of money. It is enough to read this article carefully and, using the help of a friend or relative, make such a connection yourself. We think that you will not have any particular difficulties. Good luck!

Buying a dishwasher is only part of the task; you also need to connect it and place it in the most convenient place. You can, of course, pay money and call a specialist, but the matter is not so complicated that you cannot handle it yourself. On the other hand, connecting a dishwasher requires at least minimal knowledge of electrical engineering, as well as sewerage and plumbing. If you have at least some idea about these industries, you can try to install a dishwasher yourself.

If you decide to connect the dishwasher yourself, you need to have a clear procedure. Then there will be no surprises. Even before installation begins, it is necessary to ensure that there is a separate power supply line that goes directly from the panel. Connection to tees and carriers is not approved by manufacturers. In this case, the warranty is not supported. The socket must be separate, with a mandatory working grounding contact. If there is an outlet, the procedure for connecting the dishwasher is as follows:

If the dishwasher was purchased in the cold season, before plugging it into the network, it should sit indoors for some time. It can and should be unpacked, but it is not advisable to plug it into the network. Tests should begin after it has warmed up to room temperature and the condensation that can form during a sudden change in temperature has dried.

Connecting the dishwasher to electricity: electrical line parameters

A dishwasher can consume up to 2.5-3.0 kW of electricity when heating water. Therefore, a separate power supply line is required to connect it. Since water is used in the process, the equipment carries a potential threat, so there must be a circuit breaker on the line, which in the event of a short circuit (short circuit) will turn off the power supply. To ensure your own safety, you need to install an RCD that will break the circuit if the insulation breaks down. That is, connecting a dishwasher to electricity is possible to a dedicated line on which a circuit breaker and an RCD or one replacing them are installed.

Protective device ratings and cable cross-sections

The ratings of the circuit breaker and RCD for connecting a dishwasher are calculated depending on the current consumed, but in most cases there are two options:

  1. A 16 A circuit breaker and a 25 A RCD with a leakage current of 10 mA. In this case, the cross-section of the cable cores should be 2.5 mm².
  2. The rating of the circuit breaker is 10 A, the RCD is 16 A (the leakage current is also 10 mA), the cable cross-section is 1.5 mm².

Both options are possible. The first one is taken with a significant power reserve; the wiring will work at a minimum load, but such a line will cost more. The second option is less expensive financially and it is also more than efficient (the maximum permissible load is 4.1 kW, which is more than enough, since the average power consumption of dishwashers is 2.1-2.5 kW). But, when buying a cable, . Unfortunately, with a declared cross-section of 1.5 mm², you can end up with 1.2 mm² or even less, which is unacceptable in this situation.

More on the machine’s parameters:

  • It is better to choose a bipolar one, so that in the event of an emergency, both the phase and the zero are switched off at once.
  • For apartments and houses with restored wiring, the breaking capacity of the circuit breaker should be C (C10 or C16 is written on the body); for old wiring and power supply from an air supply it is better to take B (B10 or B16 depending on the chosen option).

Which outlet should I install for the dishwasher?

A few words about sockets. To connect powerful consumers, which is a dishwasher, power rather than conventional electrical installation products are recommended. In this case, you can count on the fact that the socket will not melt even after several years of operation.

Power sockets are chosen not by appearance, but by the current for which they are designed. For most dishwasher models, the maximum current consumption will not exceed 11 A, so you can use 10/16 A power sockets. In this case, the electrical connection of the dishwasher will be done according to all the rules; the manufacturer will have to support its own warranty.

Connection to sewerage

It is advisable to connect the dishwasher drain to the sewer. This can be done in any available way. If there is a separate outlet in the sewer pipe, the drain hose is lowered there, sealing the connection using a special silicone insert. When purchasing it, you need to know the diameter of the outlet and the diameter of the drain hose. The insert is simply placed in the outlet socket, and the hose is inserted on the other side. No additional measures to seal the connection are required, since sealing occurs due to the elasticity of the material.

If there is no separate outlet, the dishwasher drain is diverted into the sink siphon. For this, there are special siphons with side outlets into which the dishwasher drain hose is inserted. Since these siphons are modern, the connection is also very simple: the hose is inserted and that’s it. For greater reliability, the joint can be additionally sealed with fum tape, but this is usually not done.

Connecting the dishwasher to the sewer should be done so that the hose sags slightly in the shape of the letter V. With such an overflow, there is less chance that wastewater from the sewer will end up in the dishwasher. The second option is more reliable, but it is possible with a sufficient supply of drain hose and free space. In this case, it is lifted above the entrance to the siphon, securing the loop with a special holder (in the figure below on the left). Please note that the hose must be positioned so that there are no other loops or kinks. In all these places, water stagnates, which then begins to “smell” strongly. If the hose is too long, it can be shortened.

Sometimes the entrance to the sewer is further away than a standard hose allows for connection. In this case, it is possible to extend the drain hose, but its length should not exceed the maximum permissible distance to the drain, which is indicated in the technical specifications. In general, it is better to choose a place to install the dishwasher so that the hose does not have to be extended. This way the pump is guaranteed to work longer.

How to connect to the water supply

To connect the dishwasher to the water supply, any end point is suitable - a tap, faucet, etc. If there is no outlet, you will have to cut the line, insert a tee (or fitting with a tap), to which you then connect the dishwasher supply hose.

When connecting the dishwasher to the water supply, connect the inlet hose to the created outlet. A tap is installed on the outlet, then a filter (at least for rough mechanical cleaning) and only after that the hose from the dishwasher is connected. A filter is highly desirable. It doesn’t cost that much and can save you from the need for premature repairs. You also need a tap - so that you can, if necessary, turn off the water supply to the dishwasher, and not turn off the water in the entire apartment or house.

All connections can be wrapped with fum tape or, in the old fashioned way, you can use packing paste and linen winding. It is better to tighten the connections by hand, using good force. The key in this case is dangerous, as it can be overtightened. After connecting the dishwasher to the water supply is completed, smoothly open the tap to supply water. If the connections do not get wet, everything is fine, you can test run the machine.

Reinstalling the dishwasher

The last stage of connecting the dishwasher is installing it in a permanent place. If the machine is free-standing, place it in the chosen place and level it using a level. You need to check both vertically and horizontally. There are height-adjustable legs for display. Controlling the position with a level, we use these legs to correct the position of the body. This procedure must be carried out carefully, since the quality of washing and drying dishes depends on it. When the machine is set crookedly, jets of water do not fall into the places where they should be, which is why the dishwasher washes dishes worse. Another nuisance if the machine is positioned incorrectly is that the water will not be completely removed, which will make it worse for the dishes to dry.

When installing a fully integrated dishwasher, it is important to align it correctly. If you ordered the cabinet when you had already chosen the model, it will be made for you according to the body parameters. Usually leave gaps of 5 mm on each side so that the machine can be pushed in. When leveling it, it is raised so that its top rests on the tabletop. To install a dishwasher, it is raised to the desired level using adjustable legs. If the cabinet is too high, place chipboard on the bottom or under the legs, but there should be no gaps.

After the built-in machine is set in height and level, it can be secured. In most cases there are several holes on the sides and top of the case. Also included is a pair of brackets. We attach the dishwasher to the side walls of the cabinet through the side holes. Then we screw the brackets on one side to the dishwasher body, and on the other to the countertop. You should not pay too much attention to the choice of fasteners. This fixation is more necessary for confidence, since the dishwasher stands still without fastening and does not move anywhere.

Questions may arise when installing a fully integrated dishwasher in a cabinet that is too wide. This happens if the unit was purchased after the kitchen set was ordered. There are several options to solve the problem. The first is to screw the slats to the sides - front and back, and then fix the body to the slats. The second way is to make false sides from laminated chipboard. The thickness of the chipboard must be selected so that the width of the opening is 10 mm or so greater than the width of the car. Screw the “secondary” side panels to the cabinet frame, and secure the machine body to them. The second method is more expensive in terms of money, but in this case there is no gap in which debris, dust, etc. accumulate.
